I went on a group to this amazing place near Antigua. the landscape is beautiful, the hiking is easy and with incredible views, I saw lava as well. It seems to be a safe place to visit, lots of tourists. The only bad thing is that they should have a better visitor center to take care of their tourists.... Anyways... more

I'm not an experienced hiker, and I loved climbing the Pacaya Volcano! The views are breathtaking and seeing the lava shooting out of the crater is amazing. You can also see lava rivers, depending on the volcano's activity. We were recommended to go in the early morning to the volcano, and afterwards went to Baños Santa Teresita, which is a... more

We did the fairly steep hike on the slopes of the vulcano november 2008 and the efford was well worth it! We walked onto magma planes and we could feel the heat from the lava underneath it coming through the cracks! The view from the ever-smoking vulcano was breathtaking. We were told the hike to the smoking top of the... more

We did the overnight trip with OX (http://www.guatemalavolcano.com/), which was completely awesome and totally worth the extra Q's when compared to the standard day trips. We had a friendly English-speaking guide, a really tasty vegetable curry for dinner, then strolled up to the lava field before collapsing into our tents. The views at sunrise the next day were great too.... more

If you are willing to sleep in a tent, we just had the most incredible overnight pacaya excursion with outdoor excursions http://www.guatemalavolcano.com/ Having the volcano all to ourselves in the dark was amazing, we literally got within 5 feet of it. A couple of pics attached. The entire excursion was perfect, kevin, our guide was awesome, they provided equipment, dinner,... more

This was a very worthwile experience! We had our driver from our hotel drive us to the entrance of the National Park where you purchase admission to the park. When you exit your car you do get a little mobbed by potential guides & children trying to sell you sticks & marshmellows. We hired one of the guides, who is... more

My husband and I went to Guatemala on our honeymoon. He had spent some time in Central America but this was my first trip. I was kind of put off by the store front travel agencies but my husband convinced me and we booked a tour for about $10US each. This included the van ride and a guide when we... more

I had limited time in Antigua but one thing I really wanted to do was hike the volcano areas. I had heard that bandits often hit the roads and parking lots and so I decided to go with a tour group called Gran Jaguar. I emailed them in advance and got a confirmation that they would pick me up at... more

Pacaya Volcano is just Amazing! If you want to go there remember to bring with you: long pants, jacket (is you go in the afternoon), flashlight, gloves (not kidding), hiking shoes, water and an adventure attitude. You will walk 3 Kilometers to get to this volcano, but these are not easy 3 K. Is very dust all the way up... more
