The plantation was not big like you expected it to look like (similar to Oak Alley Plantation), but our tour guide, Laura, gave us a good history of the family that lived there. It was a bit out of the way, but the tour was interesting. Part of the house was destroyed in a fire so it was gone and... more

We went to Laura Plantation on December 30, 2008. It was a beautiful day and they were crowded. We immediately were surprised that they offered no handicapped parking at all. In fact the parking lot was not marked off or paved. After great difficulty finding a parking space we entered the gift shop and after finding out that the tour... more

I loved this tour. Even though the house isn't grandiose the story behind the plantation is so interesting. I bought the book after the tour but wished I had read it before I went. Our guide, Elsmore, was excellent. He was so knowledgeable and funny. I hope they complete the restorations and I will definitely return. more

I really enjoyed this tour. I was hoping for more information on slave life since that is a key parrt of this era. more

Laura Plantation is less than an hour's drive away from New Orleans so if you can get there, you should definitely include it in your agenda. There are 6 tours a day, the first leaving at 10am and the last at 4pm. Show your CAA or AAA card for a discount off the $15 guided tour tickets. Our tour guide's... more

My family (two adults and two children--ages 9 and 4) toured the Laura Plantation in February 2008 and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Based on the reviews I read here, we made sure to plan to visit this location, in addition to touring Nottoway and stopping to see the outside of Oak Alley. I lived in New Orleans from 1979-1990,... more

I toured Laura Plantation because it appeared to be heavy on the history side, whereas other plantation tours talk mostly about their cool original doorknobs and whatnot. I was not disappointed. I'm sure it helped that our tour was led by the owner, who is absolutely dedicated to exploring the history of creole plantation life. If you just want a... more

I'll start by saying that you should not miss this plantation tour! I've been to 3 of the homes on River Road, and by far, this one is the best. Here's the impression that I had: my guide, and another guide that I witnessed -- chose the job because he was knowledgeable and interested in the property and history, rather... more

A plantation with a very knowledgeable staff, great restoration work, and deep history on display. The house is set up so that you can see how it was built and evolved over the past 150 years and every room has plenty to offer the eye and mind. All tours are guided by local adults that have a group passion for... more
