Red Lantern House has lived up to its No.1 spot on the TripAdvisor list of speciality lodgings. It's a nice and comfortable place, and the rooms are warm - there's a regular heater and also an air-condition unit that can function as a heater as well. Room's also very clean, though as it's a hostel, you'll have to bring all... more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Red Lantern House a couple of weeks ago and loved it there. We were not in the main building but two or three minutes down the road. (We only went to the main building for breakfast each day - you could get breakfast in our building but not the free one, which we'd... more

I echo the sentiments of the other reviewers- Red Lantern House is a great value for the money in a vibrant hutong neighborhood. It's easy to catch a taxi though a little harder to return back to the hostel as the taxi's don't necessary recognize the address (we were at the Western property). I think we're getting a little old... more

In the heart of the historical Zhengjue Hutong, this is a hostel also with private rooms, offers you great value and few good advantages to experience Beijing as ancient as before and modern as today. The best of all: its location and the traditional Chinese architecture of the building, with courtyard as a lounge. Staff very friendly and helpful, the... more

The Red Lantern House offers a good location in a typical Beijing setting. For us, it was very interesting to be in the middle of the hutong life, much better than in a conventional hotel. It is meant, though, for people willing to sacrifice some luxury to being closer to real life in Beijing. The staff was really nice and... more

We stayed in the Red Lantern West Hostel (mostly double rooms) located in Xinjiekou Nandajie 111 (west side), about 6 minutes walk from the "main" hostel. It's currently about a mile (1600 metres) from the nearest subway station (Jishuitan), but will be very close to the Pinganli and Xinjiekou stations when Line 4 opens up soon. A point to note... more

Our family ( parents, son and daughter ) stayed twice at Red Lantern House in August and September this year and stayed in the East Yard ( with the duck!!!!!!!) We would definitley return to this hostel as it provides a more authentic and much nicer environment than the big hotels which are the same in every big city .For those... more

We are senior travellers(mid 60s ),we have travelled extensively and tended to stay in good mid level hotels .What we have often been disappointed in is that in doing so you seldom rub shoulders with the locals. If you want to experience life in the Hutongs and really live amongst the Chinese ,Red Lantern is the place to stay .... more

Staff speaks fluently english and is very helpful. They provided us quickly by scan a reservation confirmation stamped that was required to obtain the chinese visa. We stayed there 1 week. Hotel is split in 2 locations. We stayed in the West Yard location. Centrally located next a big avenue with many shops and restaurants but in a quiet hutong.... more

I stayed in the Red Lantern House hostel in March 2008 with my mum... it was great! one of our favourite hostels in china. the room was lovely; we stayed in a twin room in the new East Yard (220RMB/night) - the rooms were beautifully and warmly decorated (none of the spartan style that tends to characterise hostels in china),... more
