“Fabulous Personal Touch - Loved Modigliani”

Hotel Modigliani

Jul 16, 2008

My sister and I booked in for the weekend as it was her birthday. I have absolutley no hesitation in recommending this fantastically situated, friendly hotel. The hotel itself was really easy to find. It's literally 2 mins walk from the main metro line thats 2 stops from Termini station and has all the other main tour sites on the same line. The hotel interior is lovely. The staff there were fantastic and couldn't do enough to help us. We'd booked via laterooms.com and they'd booked us a queen bed, instead of 2 doubles. The receptionist immediately sorted this out for us, giving us a tripple room at no extra cost. All the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We hadn't told them it was my sisters birthday, but they had checked our passports when we checked in and, when we returned from a days sightseeing ,we found a lovely bottle of prosecco with 2 champagne flutes and a happy birthday note from the owners. It was a really lovely touch and helped make my sisters birthday special.
The beds were comfy, the minibar was well stocked and very reasonable and the bathroom was spacious with a really good shower.
2 main tour buses stop at the bottom of the road and there are loads of good bars and restaurants around Piazza Barberini which is right on the hotels doorstep.
Some extra tips - definitely book your tickets to get into the Colosseum online before you go as the queues can be huge. We also booked a Sunset walking tour of ancient rome through viator which lasted 3 hours and was worth every penny. We also booked the open bus tour through viator as the bus stopped at the Piazza Barberini which was really handy.
One other tip - the dress code for entering St Peters Cathedral is really really strict. Please make sure you wear something thats below the knee and have your shoulders covered. We saw loads of people turned away for even having their knees showing!!

“Lots to like about Modigliani”

Hotel Modigliani

our 4 night stay during second week of July was very enjoyable.

I found the previous comments perplexing as we needed wake-up calls three of the four days and they came exactly at the time requested.

We booked the independent apartment across the street for 3 of the 4 nights and it was fabulous. Good sized bedroom, nice bathroom and a sitting area.

very accommodating staff for the most part. Helpful with restaurants and tours. I got a bit of resistance when asking for extra towels and pillows, but they showed up nevertheless.

We went to two of the restaurants they recommend in their 'newsletter' and they were great food and very good prices.

We would definitely stay here again

“a bit incompetent...”

Hotel Modigliani

3 of 5 stars

Given the reviews, I was looking forward to my stay, but was extremely disappointed. My mother-in-law was travelling with us and had a much better experience than we did. The room was fine, until we sat on the bed. It was slanted, and that's not the best way to spend 4 nights. Then, we had issues almost every morning. The first morning, we were woken up by housekeeping at 6:50 am. When we asked at the front desk, we were told that it must have been the new person.

Next, we asked for a wake-up call at 7:30 am. The call came in at 6:30 am. Another day, it was 15-20 minutes early (better, but still not good). On the final night, the recepionist asked if we wanted a wake-up call. At first I said yes, but given the history, I said no---at least 3 times. Wouldn't you know it, we got a wake-up call.

For the first few mornings, we had breakfast in the garden. We were not allowed to get anything until I gave over the breakfast coupons. Hard to imagine someone wanting to steal a dry croissant, but guess so. Then, we had breakfast inside, and while still not large, there were more options. We were just never told that.

Now, the hotel was clean, and the room was adequate overall (but beware-the shower is a 2x2 box). It's on the top of a steep hill, so if you have trouble walking up hills, you'll end up taking cabs.
Again, my mother-in-law didn't have the same issues we had, but each day, we kept wondering what would happen next.

“A Wonderful Hotel in the Heart of rome”

Hotel Modigliani

5 of 5 stars
new york
Jul 7, 2008

This hotel is truly a gem. Its central location makes it so easy to explore all the major sites in Rome, and the hotel itself is sparkling clean with the most helpful and friendly staff you could wish for. We stayed in the apartment in the building across the way from the hotel, and it was perfect for a family. We had independence, yet all the amenities and services of the hotel. We look forward to returning to Rome and to Hotel Modigliani.

“Nice Hotel”

Hotel Modigliani

Jul 2, 2008

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Hotel Modigliani. We booked a standard room so we were expecting just a basic room, which was what we got. It was not large but fine for a short stay. If you are going to spend more than a few nights there I would probably upgrade.

The room and bathroom were very clean and toiletries were provided. The only complaint about the bathroom was the shower which is very tiny. A large person would have a very hard time using it. The closet had ample shelves and hangers.

The breakfast buffet was very nice with cereal, juice, fruit and bread and pastries, and we had wonderful cappucini every morning. There is a nice sitting area just below the lobby where you can read or just relax.

Best of all was the staff. The people at the front desk are wonderful, very nice, patient, and accommodating. The housekeepers and staff in the breakfast room were great too.

And you can't beat the location. We were within easy walking distance of the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. The metro is right on Piazza Barberini which is just down the street.
