Stayed at the bauer palladio for a family holiday to venice in April. We had 4 rooms, and the hotel gave us four rooms next to one another which was fantastic. We booked standard rooms, but they were huge, lovely spacious bathrooms too, and lots of little touches which gave it the true '5-star' feel... slippers, bathrobes etc. Everything about the hotel had a touch of luxury about it, the front desk staff were really helpful at all times, and the courtesy boat across to Venice was great, but even if you didnt want to wait for the boat, the water bus across was every 10 minutes and only a 5 minute ride. The breakfasts were excellent, plenty of choice and quality every morning with good service. The bar prices were also 5 star (10Euros for a beer?) but we found a fantastic little wine shop a few minutes along the road (next courtyard opposite the waterbus stop) where the lady offered tastings of the wine and some really good wine which she sold for around 2 Euros a litre!! Fantastic stay at the Bauer Palladio, if we go to venice again I would definitely check out the Bauer Palladio first.

“Gorgeous stay in Venice”

Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa

Apr 1, 2008

Stayed at Bauer Palladio on a very sunny weekend at the end of March and had a brilliant experience. Let me first just say that the hotel was wonderful, I would recommend it to anyone visiting Venice. However it is definitely not 5*standard, more a good solid 4*, which is still very (very) good, but there is no point hiding this. Reasons why this is not 5* the furniture in the room (just a standard ensuite) was a bit thin on the grand, and looked a bit ropey. Plus no conditioner with the toiletries! I’m sorry but with current restrictions on how much liquid you can take on a flight I expect conditioner at even the most basic hotel. Also the cleaners were in and out in 4 minutes, and basically just folded the towels and made the bed. The hotel looks impressive, though you can tell it used to be a conference centre – massive rooms just filled with chairs, and the lifts were steel cages with material covering the walls.
Other than the cleaning the quality of service at the Palladio was exceptional – one very nice doorman (though a couple of gruff ones) and the dreadlocked shuttle boat driver was a really great guy. Check in and out was easy and fast. Had really good lounge areas (with big fire) and the garden was pretty. The breakfast is very good – a big choice, and it really sets you up for a days walking.

Do not use the mini bar or the restaurant, ridiculously overpriced (even for Venetian standards) –there are plenty of shops on the island, and you can buy bottles of prosseco for EUR 5, rather than spending 10 euros on a glass in the bar. The restaurants food sounded nice but was seriously expensive, and completely dead. We had one drink there and there was one other couple eating in silence. If you want a meal go to a restaurant about 5 mins away called “Residentia” or something similar, which is very authentic and served the best steak I’ve ever had, and I spend ridiculous amounts of money on food in London.

This sounds a bit moany, but I couldn’t have enjoyed the hotel more. Being away from the hubbub of San Marco was essential for us, and the little shuttle boat (5 mins top) was one of the best experiences of the whole trip.

“Away From The Crowds”

Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa

What a great hotel. We had a 4 day break to celebrate our 25th - our first visit to Venice. The hotel organised our transport from the airport (a shared taxi at 30 euros each well worth it). The hotel is a 5 minute boat trip across the lagoon and takes you away from the maddening crowds around San Marco. Our room, overlooking the garden was large, clean and bright, bathroom was excellent. Staff were attentive and helpful but always discreet. We didn't eat in the hotel because the dining room was not open for 2 out of our 3 nights there but breakfast was excellent. The Spa was not easliy accessIble and we did not bother with it. The Shuttle bus was entirley reliable.
We would rate the hotel at the top end of our ranking - and we have stayed at a number of 5 star hotels around Europe. Anyone downgrading this hotel must have very high standards indeed.

“Lovely”

Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa

5 of 5 stars
Manchester, England
Mar 14, 2008

Stayed at the Bauer Palladio about a year ago and absolutely loved it. We had a very rainy weekend in Venice and having such a lovely hotel to come back to made all the difference.

The staff were charming, especially in the the bar/restaurant, and the hotel itself was beautifully renovated, We were upgraded to a suite with an enormous terrace which was really special - even in the rain! The quiet location on Giudecca (pretty much next door to the Cipriani) really suited us and it was really easy to get around: not just using the hotel shuttle, but also using the water buses.

We're very fussy about our hotels but this one is very highly recommended.
