Our impression of the Ungherese is not as positive as most of those in the reviews. We were given a first-floor room that was very small and very sparsely furnished. The bedspread had a stain (or a faded spot, not sure which), and the linen doily on the tiny table was badly soiled. On a positive note, the sheets and pillowcases were impeccably clean and of a high quality, a nice cotton percale.
We had a wet shower, which means there was no shower enclosure or bathtub; just a spigot on the wall that sprayed water on everything around it. The first time I took a shower, the entire room flooded – under the bed, against the walls, everywhere. After that, we asked for extra towels and used one as a dam under the bathroom door. That worked OK. However, the hotel has a sign in the bathroom telling us that we are supposed to make our two bath towels and two hand towels (the extent of our linen) last for two days. The towels were not terry cloth, but woven linen in a waffle pattern. They were extra large, spotlessly clean, and very absorbent.
Our room was noisy because people enjoyed sitting in the garden outside our door, smoking and laughing late into the night. In addition, every time a guest came in, they rang the buzzer to get admittance to the Hotel, and we could hear the buzzer clearly in our room. Then the entering strangers would have a conversation outside our door.
In summary, I would be unlikely to stay at this hotel again. If we had been lodged in a second floor room, we might have enjoyed it much more. The location was fine, the Continental breakfast was adequate and well staffed, and the staff members were extremely kind and helpful.
