“incredible home away from home”

Villa Antea

Feb 15, 2008

My husband and I went there for a vacation on our own (no kids) We found the accomadations incredible!!! The room was sensational, huge and furnished beautifully with everything you could possibly need. The shower is beyond words, you could have a party in there if so desired. The staff could not have been any more helpful or friendly. They meet your every need and more!!! I would Love to keep this place a secret for just ourselves, but it is too nice not to share!!! The breakfast was also very good . The smell of fresh crossiants wafting into your room made you want to get up and start your day. I look forward to going back there one day!!!

“Villa Antea”

Villa Antea

Feb 11, 2008

Villa Antea is an attractive Villa tucked away a short distance from the main sights of Florence.
As per all the other reviews, i can confirm the bedrooms are very large and the bathrooms are equally sizeable with super showers and immaculately clean throughout.
Nice comfortable King size beds, beautiful hallway and staircase. Breakfast is limited, but it almost doesn't matter as the Villa Antea is such excellent value for money in every other aspect.
Can easily walk to main sights during the day, but advisable to get taxi for the evenings. Would recommend to friends.

“Villa Antea remedies a billing problem”

Villa Antea

Feb 10, 2008

Villa Antea is a lovely Bed & Breakfast style hotel. The building and rooms are full of light and artfully decorated, bathrooms are sumptuous, and the staff were nicer and friendlier than at a typical tourist or business hotel. Being from New York City, I didn't mind at all the 15 minute walk to the City Center. I brought my mother to Italy for her birthday and she loved this hotel (so long as we took a taxi home!).

My only issue with Villa Antea occurred about two months after our stay. As I understand it, Villa Antea changed ownership a little less than a year ago, but the previous owners, before selling the hotel, charged my credit card twice for my stay. I didn't catch this double charge immediately and after months of filling out forms, my credit card company declined to refund me the charges (next time I'll use American Express or cash!). I brought this issue up with the current owners of Villa Antea and they have since sent me a voucher for an equivalent visit.

Since the double charge did not take place during their ownership, I am very satsified with their response and their willingness to take responsibility to remedy the situation. They seem to care very much about their guests' experience, even one year after their stay! Perhaps next time, I'll bring my husband to this hotel, as it is well suited to be a romantic get-away. I would recommend this hotel to fellow travelers.

“Romantic Getaway”

Villa Antea

Jan 4, 2008

Slightly out of town but only 15 minutes walk to the Dumo and other main attractions. Location gave great access, via staff recommendations, to great restaurants that are off the tourist path. The rooms are large and very well furnished. We would recommend Villa Antea especially to couples looking for a perfect romantic getaway.

The staff are very helpful and friendly and we would not hesitate to book there again.

“Interesting Place”

Villa Antea

4 of 5 stars
Roma, Italy
Jan 4, 2008

My wife and I stayed at the Villa Antea for 1 night with our daughter and friend using two rooms. Our daughter had previously stayed there just before Christmas and loved it.

As other's have commented it is a delightful place, very helpful front desk staff, enormous bedrooms and bathrooms (even by the standards or American hotels) with an interesting mixture of classical design and furnishings alongside very contemporary elements. The (buffet) breakfast was relatively simple but everything very fresh. The Caprise salad was excellent and the fresh fruit salad looked as if the ingredients were fresh as opposed to the usual European offering of canned fruit. As it was January we obviously weren't able to sample the outdoor terrace.

Also as others have noted, it is about a fifteen to twenty minute walk to SMN train station - I'm not sure I could get to the Duomo in fifteen minutes without braking into a jog. When the weather is favorable this isn't that disadvantageous but when its cold and/or wet it's less appealing. In addition the walk is not particularly interesting, if one likes to be in the center of things this probably isn't a good choice. A taxi from the Centro late at night for a party of four was EUR14. The local bus stop is just around the corner, however, we're told they don't run frequently after 8 PM.

The one thing that took the edge off for us was no hot water the morning of our stay; the boiler had broken the previous evening.

Overall I'd say a nice place for those looking for a large bedroom and bathroom, who appreciate interesting design, don't mind limited hotel style services and don't mind an invigorating walk every time one goes into town. I have a harder time deciding on vale for money and whether its worth it in the spring or summer. EUR180 per night seems expensive to me but I don't know what rates are for comparable hotels nearer the center, I do know that Florence is expensive generally.

Management Response

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the comment about Villa Antea on Trip Advisor
It was a pleasure to welcome you and your family in our Relais and we are always glad when our guests write a review about us as this helps us to make our services more efficient.

We would like to apologise for the inconvenient happened to our boiler , we have done our best to solve the problem offering to all our guests different solution and accommodation in beautiful places close to Villa Antea.
Unfortunately your reservation was only for one night, and this happened just the morning of your departure….
We have noted, double checking you reservation, that the rate of your room was € 135,00 per night and not € 180,00 per night as you have mentioned.
Regarding your note about transportation and taxi, we are quite surprised as the bus stop is really close to Villa Antea; buses going to the city centre run every 10 minutes and after 9,00 pm every 30 minutes until midnight.
We are really sorry you didn’t find the bus in the requested time.
Villa Antea is in any case located only 1.8km from the Duomo and walking for few metres you enter in the historical centre from Via Santa Caterina d’Alessandria and via San Gallo, outside the traffic and the crowded streets and the walk takes approx 10/15 minutes.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and your family again at Villa Antea and we send you our kindest regards
