After reading several reviews on TripAdvisor.com and seeing that the hotel was within walking distance of Centraal Station, we decided on A-Train. It was a bit expensive, but ithat was my fault for not booking a room sooner (it was pretty much the cheapest hotel we could find in the area tho).
We flew in from London and got to Amsterdam around 11am. Check-in wasn't until 2pm, but we walked to the hotel to drop our luggage. The 2 gentlemen behind the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful (and spoke very clear english). We were thrilled when they said our room was already ready and gave us the key (we'd had to leave London a 4am so were eager to take a nap [after visiting our first coffee shop first, of course])!
The hotel is small and narrow, but what building isn't in Amsterdam?
The whole "train motiff" is cute. Our room was no bigger than the size of an average dorm room, but it was all we needed. Yeah, the fact that you have to pay extra for TV sucks, but no biggie. I was actually impressed by the selection of food they had for breakfast. They had cold cereal, hard boiled eggs, breads for toast (with an assortment of jams, honey, peanut butter and chocolate spreads), sliced cheeses and meats, orange juice and coffee (although the
"milk" for the cereal looked more like the consistencey of yogurt). The location was perfect.
All-in-all, it was a great stay and we would definitely stay there again.
