My wife and I have just completed our 5 week honeymoon trip to Western Europe...I boooked the majority of our hotels with information from Trip advisor...

We stayed at Hotel Chic & Basic for 2 nites in April...This hotel was ideally situated on the Herengracht canal, 5-10 minute walk from the train station. The centre of Amsterdam is not very big, and everything was within walking distance of this hotel.

We booked this hotel directly for a rate of 140 Euros a nite...(The most expensive on our trip)...The hotel is quite nice, I'm not sure why it's only listed as a 2 star (maybe because it doesn't have an elevator???)...The are several steep stairs at awkward angles throughout the hotel, which is standard for Amsterdam...

Our room was a spacious 2 story room with some widowmaker stairs leading to a bathroom...(Be careful if you've had a few Heineken's...hehehehe) Our room did not come with a view of any sort...There was a little window up by the ceiling...

There was a 24 hr cappuccino/espresso machine and internet available in the lobby...Breakfast is served in the lobby for an additional 7.50 Euro...The staff was wonderful and helpful...

Don't get me wrong this is a nice place to stay and we enjoyed our time in Amsterdam...However, looking back, I'm not sure this place offered the best bang for our buck...

On entering the Hotel, The staff were so so helpful and friendly,The breakfast was ok in the morning, I found the hotel very expensive for what you get, The Rooms were spotless, How ever we had a ground floor room and you could hear everyone having breakfast and talking in the morning, So try and get a room away from the ground floor.

It was great. Although a 2-star hotel, everythink was great. My partner and I had a mini-suite on the top floor and we were amazed how cosy it was. The bed was confortable and the most important thing is that every corner of the room was very clean. Perfect location (5 minutes walk from the station) and great staff. The price seemed a bit high for a 2-star hotel but we didn't regret it at all. Next time I will be in Amsterdam I will surely book this hotel.

Was a little dissapointed with the hotel, Staff were very pleasant and it was in a excellent location however the room was very small although the bedding was clean and the shower also there was a lot of marks on the walls that let this room down ( In nee of a paint i think) also you are lead to believe that the breakfast is free which isnt the case i think they need to change the wording on the rooms welcome note.
Also room was nothing like picture of room shown on internet with nice pic behind bed . we had a pic of a glass and a newspaper on our wall ???? Also net curtains could do with a good clean and the view from our window was a dead plant in a plant pot
