“Great Location, Nice Hotel”

Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Edinburgh
Jul 17, 2008

This is a great hotel. I have stayed here a couple of times and have had a really good time. The standard rooms are quite small (although the upgraded rooms are huge) but have everything you need including free internet, comfortable beds, and great shower (no bath). There are direct trams from central station and it is right in the centre of Amsterdam. Rooms are clean and fashionably furnished (some looking very slightly warn).

Breakfast is good but if it isn't in your room rate be warned it is about 17 Euros which is heafty. However, there is a nice coffee shop along the street.

Will definitely stay again

“Pleasant Hotel In Fantastic Location”

Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Richhill, Northern Ireland
Jul 6, 2008

Have just returned from a four-night stay at the Eden Rembrandt Square. The hotel was in a great location, just far enough from lively Rembrandt Square to be quiet at night time. We walked from Central Station as the weather was lovely, but if it was raining, you might prefer to take the tram which drops you off less than one hundred meters from the hotel's front door.

The room was an adequate size and comfortable, with flat-screen TV with international channels. The glass doors into the bathroom and glass partition between the shower and bedroom are not a problem if you are staying with a spouse or partner, but may not be to everyone's taste. There is also a frosted panel across the middle of the glass. The beds are fantastically comfortable, and our room was quiet at night. The only things I could complain about were that housekeeping was a little noisy in the morning, and they only left one small bar of soap during the entire four-night stay, although other toiletries were replaced.

We didn't really have any view from our room, looking into an internal courtyard, although this was compensated for by the fact that no street view meant no noise from outside.

Staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel provides a secure room to leave luggage in once you have checked out.

“overpriced and over rated”

Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel

we stayed here a few weeks ago.
the reception area and staff were ok, the rooms were small
and quite bsic.
we had a great view of a brick wall with a few windows of other rooms to look in to. not very nice.

we tried to get an iron and ironing board to press shirts to go out, but could not get one for love nor money.
managers were not interested, although the door porter tried his best.
we had to bribe a porter to get us one and i gave him 10 euros.
id say this hotel is all nice looking as you arrive but goes downhill rapidly after that.
all fur coat and no knickers springs to mind on this one.
we moved after 3 days, (id had enough) to the krapanosky.

Wow..from the minute we walked in, like entering 'hotel Babylon' Lovely reception, helpful staff, lovely rooms and gorgeous beds, bathroom doors not a problem, sharing with a friend and neither of us understood why people complain about them. Plenty of tea and coffee, lovely toilettries, nice towels, room cleaned next day, ice machine just outside door. Helpful concierge. Easy and friendly check out, even organised us a taxi to the airport instead of the train. Just off rembrandt square, so great for shops and bars, also quiet on a night time, due to good double glazing.
Would we stay again..........deffinatley. Had a lovely stay.

“Nice hotel let down by attention to detail and communication between staff”

Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel

Jun 8, 2008

My partner and I stayed at this hotel just after Easter 2008. It's extremely well located in the heart of Amsterdam just off the bustling Rembrandt's Square.

The place has a modern, minimalist style - with understated entrance lobby and nicely furnished rooms in the current trends of white walls, walnut furniture, slate tiles, and suede-effect soft furnishings. Our room was amply equiped - complete with small but functional flat-screen TV, fridge, internet access (assuming you've brought your own device). Also included were tea/coffee making facilities, something not that common on Amsterdam hotels.

Our first call was to housekeeping to get some extra crockery - given that we only had one of everything! Okay, it's a small point - but it's a double room for goodness sake. Eventually a single small coffee cup arrived but it was late so we made do! Our 2nd and 3rd calls to housekeeping the next day - followed by a trip to reception after an hour's waiting - were because we'd been left no extra coffee and creamer supplies. Finally we got a couple of satchets of each handed in - perhaps there's some sort of tax on this in Amsterdam?

The fridges in the rooms have electronic controls on EVERYTHING - which means it's totally impossible to even move them around a little to accomodate anything of your own that you want to cool. Never mind, we thought, there's an ice machine on every floor - but unfortunately no ice bucket in the room!

Like so many hotels - even in the 21st centuary - the people who design the bathrooms obviously never have to use them. Is it really so much to ask for that the shower spray be contained in the bath or tray rather than flooding the floor? Or that you can sit on the loo without having to lean to one side to avoid the loo-roll dispenser? Or for sufficient ventilation and extraction that you don't feel like your shaving in the humidity of a a tropical rain forrest!

However, the Eden Rembrandt manages one further design feature that I've never seen before - with its glass bathroom doors. Despite the partial frosting, anyone else in the room is not only treated to some interesting views when walking past the bathroom, but to every sound eminating too! We discovered and even better feature on night time visits to the loo - when the shadows on the wall opposite the bathroom cast a cinematic view on the opposite wall - leaving nothing to the imagination.

We both liked the Eden, but it would be so much better for just a little extra thought and effort. Would I stay here again? Perhaps - but without these various niggles it would be a definite.
