Our visit this week to this zoo was a huge disappointment. The fun attractions were the penguins, chimps and sea-lions; the rest was poor. The enclosures are badly maintained, for example the flamingoes( which looks like an untended allotment), the water in the sea-lion and penguin pools is so green that the underwater viewing areas are useless. The animals look unkempt and mangy-particularly the camels and bears.
We tried the safari cafe for teas and a snack. I suppose if you were on safari, then the dirty floor and disgusting terrace with tea that tasted like a mixture of lemon, coffee, chocolate and soup, would be justifiable. Serving tea out of a machine in darkest Wales is lazy and the taste was an acquired one. The zoo pamphlet praises its catering--god help the animals!
There are a few collection boxes in the zoo, persuading you to part with further funds so that various buildings can be renovated. I think this is a pointless exercise, because the management have not maintained their existing assets, and will presumably let any new stuff deteriorate.
This is a definite miss for me and not worth the entrance fee.
