Stumbled upon this place while searching for things to do while in Akumal. Not really close to Akumal but in my opinion worth the drive!! Depending on when your flight gets in you can hit it on your way out of Cancun. You can't miss the big sign on the side of the road-(the main highway 307) up and down the riveria.
The time we spent there falls into the one of my "best day ever!" catagories!
Saysa (?) was our guide and spoke very good english and was absolutely wonderful. Very friendly and attentive. We took the tour with a family with two children. So four adults and two kids total. He had lots of patience with the kids (they were very well behaved) and talked to them as well as the whole group. We saw plenty of crocodiles and snakes (eeewww) and some other interesting reptiles. But the highlight of the tour were the monkeys, the deer being a close second. We were able to feed the deer and were lucky enough to see 2 day old twin fawns! Amazing. Then it was off to the monkeys. Oh my gosh, it was one of the coolest things I have ever done. We got to feed them and feeling the monkey's fingers grazing mine was breath taking. Truly! I will never forget it as long as I live. There were two baby monkeys that we were able to see pretty closely as well.
The tour guides are volunteers so plan on tipping well $20-$30 as you are helping to fund their schooling.
Make sure you buy a bag of food or two or three!:) It is great fun to feed the animals.
We will definately do this again next time we go down it really was great fun-even for adults!
