“great location”

we stayed at Star city after reading reviews and trying to find a 2 bedroom apartment close to the city.,that was resonably priced. We booked direct on there website and got a good deal 275.00 anight. The apartments are part of the casino and hotel complex. There is a little shop in the lobby or a supermarket Coles around the corner. This place is located on the tram line into town which also connects with the monorail at Chinatown. Darling harbour is only minutes away and is full of tousist attractions and restaurants open till late. There is also a ferry stop that will bring you to Circular Quay and the Opera House. Darling harbour at night is so pretty worth staying there just to walk by there at night.
Now the apartment, it was new clean modern had two tv;'s 2 bathrooms, washer dryer, dishwasher, kitcher. Our view we were on the 5th floor was of the harbour bridge and lovely but you should stay on a higher floor to get the better view.Try to visit the heater pool at night view is stunning you can have a champagne(plastic glass) and take in the view breathtaking.Would definately recomend this place. It has the tram, ferry and monorail all on it's doorstep.Enjoy

“Good location, but Casino presence unusual”

We stayed in the hotel as part of our honeymoon in Australia.

The room itself was lovely and our special meal in the Pyrmont was fantastic. The location of the hotel for seeing Sydney was first class and this was one of our main reasons for booking the hotel in the first place.

We did find the prominence of the casino in the hotel rather unusual making it feel that it was accomodation for the casino rather than a hotel in its own right.

Overall if you are looking for a hotel with a handy location for being able to walk around and see Sydney, we couldn't recommend it enough.

“Great facilities - but keep your eye out for reduced rates”

Star City

Star City has 24/7 convenience thanks to the adjoining casino, but the rooms themselves are a little tired. That said, they're still well equipped - the 2 bedroom unit we stayed in had everything we needed, except for the absolute lack of patio furniture. Beds were clean and comfy, and the lounge room was roomy.

The hotel is starting to show its age though, and the standard prices are several times what they should be. If you want to stay somewhere nice and central (and open around the clock), check out local hotel websites in advance and you should be able to score a room here at half the price or less.

“Not a relaxing hotel.”

Using their hotel internet site I directly booked a Harbour Bridge view (Floor Level 10-16). The initial booking was for 4 nights but our Air New Zealand flight was cancelled. I rang them to tell them we would be a day late which was no problem - no penalty charge.

On arrival we were assigned a King Size bed on the 10th floor. The bedroom and view were lovely but unfortunately at a quarter past eight in the morning renovation work on a room nearby meant that it was impossible to relax.

A receptionist explained that the workers weren't supposed to start before 9 in the morning. Even so I requested a change of room and we were assigned a room on the 16th floor with 2 double beds. A porter moved our suitcases and gave us programmed entry cards for the new room.

The renovation work was still quite noisy on the 16th floor but not as bad. The view had improved though and Sydney Harbour Bridge could now be clearly seen (without a nearby construction crane obscuring it).

When we went back to our hotel room in the afternoon for a siesta once again there was drilling including a hammer drill and sometimes two drills at once - quite a din! The only remedy was to listen to music on a radio.

The following morning the drilling started well before 9 o'clock again. The third morning we had to be up early to get the A380 morning flight to Singapore so at least we missed the drilling noise.

I don't regret staying in this hotel but I wouldn't recommend it until the renovation work is complete.

“A faded star”

I was here last year, and returned because it was convenient to be staying here at this location in Sydney.

I was assigned a room on the 9th floor, and was very disappointed with the state of the room, tired and grotty. stained carpets, scratched desks/furniture, chipped bath, not really 5* in any way.

Expensive too, in fact twice what I paid for my fantastic experience across the Tasman in Sky City!

There are plenty of other newer and smarter experiences within minutes of this place, don't make any special effort to book this place unless you find out his has been renovated.
