I don't know why this place hasn't been reviewed on here before despite being listed, but it's a really nice place to just explore and enjoy. It's not on the main touristy list so you won't be surrounded by tourists, despite it only being a few minutes walk from Taronga Zoo. It was mentioned in my guide book as one of the best parks and trails in the city so thought I'd give it a go.

The best way to get to this area is using one of the boats from Circular Quay. I think you can get like water taxi style boats that go all around the harbour but I used the Matilda hop-on hop-off rocket explorer which allowed me to see everything I wanted with commentary for one price.

When you get to the pier by the zoo go to the end and instead of turning left to the zoo turn right and go up the hill, ignoring the steps that take you down on various trails to the right. When you get to the top near the bend in the road you will see a sign advertising the park which has a map on it.

From here you are able to take some lovely walking trails down through some nice forest. I didn't see much wildlife except a few birds but I heard plenty of noises coming from the forest so am sure if I had more time I would have seen more. The forest is only small but is in good condition and gives you some great views.

There are various detours you can do from the main path to take you to various monuments, beaches etc and also to see some aboriginal cave drawings. I was unable to find these but they were apparently half way down one of these detours. Maybe I was just looking in the wrong place but I've seen a photo so they're there somewhere.

You can follow the trail around in a big loop, showing you some good views at varying points of all the different bays and Sydney in the distance. The trail takes you through lots of natural habitats, with signs explaining things to you and then brings you out at the steps I said to ignore on the way up the hill from the pier.

About half way along there is a lookout point and picnic area which was a nice place to relax and enjoy the view.

I would recommend spending some time here. It was a nice escape from the hussle of Sydney and was around nice surroundings. It wasn't too busy when I went but this was in June. If I went in the summer it would most likely have been busier.
