Our stay here was birthday treat for spouse. She loved it so I guess it was worth the price.
Location is just on the edge of a nice bit of Prague to the North and West of the main square- pretty, clean, expensive bars and restaurants and not a stag party in sight. One street further on and it could have been seedy.
The bright, white reception housed helpful staff and also functioned as the bar- not a terribly comfortable place to spend time as it is smallish and populated with the sort of oddly shaped plastic chairs which probably have a Swedish name that you can't pronounce. The Ikea theme carried on into the bedroom which was all pale neutrals, glass and chrome. Spouse loved deep free standing bath and minimalist feel. Less impressed that minimalism extended to absence of towel hook or soap dish. Blinds and roller shutters added to the general theme- the latter seemed to have a life of their own and choose some awkward moments to rise and fall
Breakfast was good - fabulous fresh fruit and eggs/pancakes/omlettes made to order though service was a tad slow.
Prague was beautiful and the Sun shone. We had a lovely time. Nice hotel but it did remind me of Stockholm

Our room was ready upon arrival at the hotel, around 11:30 a.m., which was a nice surprise. The room itself was modern and quite comfortable with a very adequate bathroom. Airco works perfectly. The only downpoint was lack of shelves and wardrobe space, which forced us to more or less live out of our suitcase for 4 days. We could have asked for another room, of course, but we decided to leave it, since we were out most of the time. Breakfast is one of the best we have ever had; huge choice, everything fresh and tasty. Breakfast staff very helpful and friendly, as were staff at front desk and concierge. Prague is absolutely gorgeous and Hotel Josef definitely contributed to make our stay perfect. We warmly recommend it!

“double booked”

Hotel Josef

Jul 28, 2008

My husband and I booked the hotel Josef with 1800 hotels for 5 nights from 17th to 22nd july. When we arrived at check in at 10 pm very tired after we had been travelling since early morning we were asked to take a seat. Then when one of the staff called Luke came to us and offered us drinks "complementary of course " I knew something was wrong, he went on to explain that they had double booked or something like that I dont think I took in exactly what the reason was only that there was no room. We were offered a room at another hotel for the night we would be taken there and collected next morning also we were told we would be upgraded to a superior room and treated like VIPs for our stay. I wanted a smoking room which I had requested on my booking and we were told we could have a third floor room or a seventh floor with a balcony and we agreed on the latter. We went to the other hotel the Jasmin which I didnt really like it was clean and comfortable but when we arrived there was very loud music blaring from somewhere down the back of the hotel although our room was very quite. It just was not our type of hotel. Next morning the car came to take us back to the Josef and to my disbelief there was no room ready for us and and would not be until 1 pm also there was no seventh floor room only a third floor room. When we did get our room it was very nice and comfortable but we were not treated to any thing else and we certainly were not treated like VIPs. But the thing is after everything that happened and the way we were treated I would stay again because it is a lovely hotel and we have stayed there before but I would hope not to have the same experience.

“Pretty damn good”

Hotel Josef

Jul 24, 2008

In short a great hotel in all respects. The only small negative is that there was a mix up on the booking where I had requested a double room and they had me down for a twin. The receptionist was a little surly until I showed her my paperwork which clearly showed a double room was requested. However from this point on the stay was very enjoyable. Very clean with nice staff and some very nice little touches which make all the difference ie. bottle of water each side of the bed, free fruit in reception and the room prepared at night for you before you go to bed. Also the electric blinds outside all windows are cool too. The hotel is very well situated for site seeing and is only 5 mins away from the Old Town Square which is kind of the hub of the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to go to Prague.

“Great Location”

Hotel Josef

Jul 24, 2008

Stayed here July 14 - 18. Its best feature, to my mind, was its location - close to Bohemian Bagel, Bakeshop, Palladium Mall (Starbucks), and cool poster shop immediately across the street.

Lobby also very cool to come back to.

Having booked with Hotels.com, they, naturally, gave us a room on a low floor (and no breakfast - hence Bohemian Bagel), but it was very convenient to access.

Prague is, of course, gorgeous. It's hard to believe its real - more like an incredibly elaborate Disney theme park. Like a Disney set, every available inch is used for retail purpose, and those retailers ain't cheap. There are few bargains to be found in Prague - we did much better in the 2nd half of our trip, in Budapest.

Finally, mention must be made of the women. If you're looking for beautiful skinny blondes 5'10" & up, I recommend looking in Prague. They are abundant.
