I booked the Hotel Julian as a surprise for my husband for our 1st wedding anniversary using the reviews on Trip Advisor as a reference and I have to say we weren't disappointed. The hotel was on the quieter side of the Vltava River, two streets back from the waterside and about a 10-15 minute walk to Charles Bridge.
The hotel itself was very clean, breakfast was simple but tasty and included fresh bread, scrambled eggs, streaky bacon, spicy sausage, continental style meats and cheeses with cakes & pastries. The hotel bar did food but we didn't eat there as there are so many places around to eat we ran out of time. We didn't use any of the other facilities but as a note there is a gym if you have any energy left after walking all day and there is an iron and ironing board downstairs in the basement which they let you use.
One thing we would recommend is that if you book this hotel ask them for a rear facing room. Although there is nothing to look at you will find it quieter as the road out front was pretty busy all night and the windows let a lot of noise through.
OUT & ABOUT --
If you cross the road directly outside the hotel and head left in the direction of Charles Bridge and the Castle( You can see this in the distance) keep walking for about 5 minutes you will find some decent bars. The best one we found along here is a Mexican Restaurant & Bar called 'Cantina'. The food is fantastic and the cockatils to die for but they get very busy so you may need to reserve a table if you want to eat. The other great place for food was a place by the river under Charles Bridge next to the jetties where you catch the boat trips. It's a golden building called 'At the Charles Bridge'. It serves the biggest & best Pork Knuckle in the area and is a BBQ style restaurant which again is very popular with its beer garden.
All in all we walked miles, saw everything and returned each day exhausted from all the walking we did. Some people have said to use the trams but the weather was sunny & 25 degrees + so we made the most of the weather and walked. Most afternoons we had freak afternoon showers for about 30 minutes followed by bright sunshine - very odd!! We would definitely return in a year or so but will go mid week again. As Friday & Saturday approached it felt like every Stag Party in the world descended on Prague and bars became very busy and drinks prices increased.
Definitely a country to visit but take flat shoes!
