Stayed recently for weekend wedding and was pleasantly surprised by the good service and overall positive experience at this hotel. Had a very good group rate of $139 per night. We all arrived early and front desk did a good job of handling lots of early arrivals and special requests. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Most of our rooms had windows facing inside so views were very dismal but no noise from the street to bother you. The hotel's location is very convenient for sightseeing but it is in a business area so weekends are pretty quiet.

The rooms include both fridge and micro and coffee maker which I find very convenient. The hotel's pantry store was also very convenient -- we closed their little bar and then were able to buy a bottle of wine from the pantry to continue our celebration in our rooms. The night clerk even de-corked it for us.

It was 98 degrees outside but the hotel was very comfortable
throughout our stay. Others have mentioned the pricey buffet breakfast and I would have to agree. We were kind of stuck there as we were meeting relatives and others in the wedding party for breakfast both mornings but if I were there on my own I would grab a cup of their free coffee in the lobby to wake up and then run down to starbucks which is a half a block away.

We did not use the metro (didn't notice the metro stop as a matter of fact) since we were all decked out for wedding activities and cabs were very easy to get. Loved the full service of the hotel with doormen and concierge being very very helpful. Don't be shy about asking the concierge for help -- he has a computer right there and he was extremely helpful.

This has nothing to do with this hotel or the specific location of the hotel but we all noticed the very high number of homeless people in DC. in general. Not sure why the high concentration but it was sadly noticeable.

If you can get a decent rate I would definitely book this hotel.

“Great Stay”

Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Franklin Square

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We had a king room on the 10th floor. It was relatively quiet...could hear people playing music in the metro entrance two mornings, but not any hotel noise. Right across the street from the McPherson Square metro station, so it's really convenient and easy to use. We didn't walk to any sights, but it's not very far from the White House. The staff was friendly & helpful. We left our luggage with the concierge on the last day for a few hours & found that to be very convenient. Never ate at the restaurant because the breakfast was a little pricey ($16/person). Instead, we stocked our fridge & a shelf with some breakfast goodies from the CVS a couple blocks away and also ate a McDonald's (about 3 blocks away) & Starbucks (less than a block). There are some other options nearby, too. Bed was okay...not greatest, but not bad. It's one of those ones where you can adjust the firmness with a dial on both sides, but we didn't notice much change when we did that. Two choices of pillows & plenty of them. Plenty of storage room for two for a 5-night stay. We used the laundry, which was very busy since they only had 2 washers & dryers, but it was nice to have the option.

“Great location, terrible service”

Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Franklin Square

After reading reviews of many hotels in DC and checking prices (aaugh!) we decided on this hotel since it was near the White House and the Mall. The location was absolutely superb. It is across from the Metro (though the entrance is currently under construction and really a mess) and a quick walk from the White House and the Capitol Mall (our 15-year old daughter was disappointed that it was a grassy area and not a shopping mall! But got over it quickly seeing the sights). However being so close to tourist sights, we found the concierge and the front desk abominable, due to their blatant erroneous information and overall lack of information. I am a very seasoned business traveler and pretty self-sufficient when it comes to finding my way around. We asked for bus information from three different hotel staff and none could be provided. When we arrived the first evening, we wanted to go out for a quick bite. Dressed in jeans and shorts and clearly having traveled many hours I asked if there was somewhere we could go just dressed "as is" and the suggestion they gave us two blocks away was very posh and upscale- a beautiful restaurant but completely and totally inappropriate for what we needed- or wanted. I was very explicit and they got it completely wrong. This area has a number of restaurants that are only open for breakfast and lunch, but after walking a few blocks we were able to find a little pizza place and a couple of other choices, no thanks to the hotel. Another minor gripe- no safe in the hotel room. This was a combo business/pleasure trip so when I was done with the business portion of my trip we were sightseeing and there was no place for me to lock my laptop. The hotel is pretty but really nothing special. In all fairness, the beds and pillows were comfortable and we really liked the microwave and fridge in the room. I would only recommend this hotel if you are 100% self-sufficient and will not need any questions answered- an unusual situation in any case. However if you fit that description, if the price is right, this hotel could be considered.

“Good base for sightseeing”

Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Franklin Square

OK hotel in a good location for seeing the main tourist attractions. Directly opposite an underground station (McPherson Square).

Hotel room was fine with the usual facilities. Staff left a lot to be desired. When we checked in no-one told us what time breakfast was or any other information - we had to ask all the time.

Just down the road is a nice little "deli" which we used for breakfast. Fine if you want a cheap and cheerful buffet style breakfast, although it doesn't open on Sundays.

For nice restaurants we suggest travelling to Georgetown. Although we found some nice places in Washington (Matchbox was very nice - near Chinatown) we thought there was more choice in Georgetown - unfortunately we didn't discover this until the last day!!

Check out was even worse than check in! We had asked for a taxi to take us to Dulles at 6.00am and were told this was not a problem. The night before when we reconfirmed this had been arranged, the porter told us to ask for him in the morning.

The following morning when we left , there was a limousine waiting outside and the porter took our cases outside. When we got outside there was also a taxi waiting and the driver knew our surname. Both drivers then started arguing over who should be taking us, at which point the porter put luggage into the limo. Not wanting any confrontation we got in and went but refused to pay any tip when we got to the airport.

Not the best end to a very enjoyable stay in Washington.

“Great Service”

Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Franklin Square

Stayed here for an extended weekend June 13-16. I was with my siter-in-law and two young neices (ages 8 and 10). This hotel has great location. I've stayed at others in the DC area and have now learned to confine myself to downtown only. The rooms are nice, nothing speacial. If you stay, get the breakfast option - the meal is wonderful - not the typical continental fare but everything from grits and oatmeal to made-to -order omlettes, french toast, Belgain waffles and lots of fresh fruit. Fantastic deal!
The staff were superb. Everyone from the front desk to the concierge, the waitstaff, the housekkepers, absolutely everyone greeted us with a smile and went out of their way to make us feel important.
When we booked, I had originally booked only one room, but had second thoughts the Monday before we left. I was able to get another room but told it would be on another flor, and was just a king bed rather than two doubles. When we arrived at the hotel, the gentleman at the desk saw to it that we had adjoining rooms, each with two beds. We could not have asked for better service. The whole stay was stress-free and lovely.
Metro station located right across the street made transportation easy.
The only drawbacks were the small size of the pool (but who goes to DC to swim anyway?) and Franklin Square across the street is overrun with homeless folks. Typical of DC, I know, and not the hotel's fault, but just be prepared for that.
