“Convenient Location But Not Comfortable”

Phoenix Park Hotel

3 of 5 stars
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Aug 9, 2008

We decided on a Saturday to drive down to DC and combine work with pleasure with 2 of our kids. Drove down early Monday. Parking nearby but not part of the hotel. The room was on the small side, but the hotel was nice feeling, cozy but charming. The only real beef I have is the lack of sufficient air conditioning during the heat of the DC summer season. The first night we suffered, thought it was working, kind of, but as the night wore on it seemed to be more obvious that it wasn't working up to par. On our way out in the morning, we told the front desk. They were very friendly and agreed to look at the problem. We came back to the hotel at night hoping for a big change. The A/C was never fixed and never mentioned to us. The location was great if you want to walk around the capitol area, visit the Air and Space Museum, the new Newseum, etc. However, not great to walk around at night re: the nearby homeless shelter. That wasn't a big deal for us because we were so tired from walking and sightseeing during the day that we just ate somewhere else and stayed at the hotel after dinner. Don't eat breakfast at the hotel--overpriced as typical but food so so. Maybe the lunch/breakfast is better but we didn't try it. Overall, a nice charming hotel close to the sights but the A/C is the dealbreaker for me.

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Hotel. We understand the lack of public space especially for seating is a concern for our guests. Our property was built in the 1920s and expanded in the 1990s to accommodate for more space but the original architecture presented limitations to what we could do. However we are proud to have preserved the charm of the era in which it was built and it has allowed us to be a member of the prestigious Historic of Hotels of America. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope you welcome you back on a future trip to Washington, DC.

“Great Hotel in a convenient location”

We just returned from our DC trip and had a wonderful time in the capitol. The hotel was cleaned and staffs were friendly and resourceful. It is conveniently located close to Union Station and the Capital building. The Dubliner's is a great place to eat dinner or have a drink at night. I am not recommending it for breakfast however. We will return again!

“Excellent Anniversary”

Phoenix Park Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Ashburn, Virginia
Jul 28, 2008

My wife and I just stayed for two nights at the historic Phoenix Park Hotel and had an absolutely wonderful time celebrating our 10th anniversary. The room was very charming and very clean with lovely furnishings and an incredibly comfortable bed. The front office staff was very professional and friendly and the manager inquired about our satisfaction with our room. Our view was of the old Post Office Building and Union Station both of which house numerous restaurants and shops as well as the Postal Museum. We chose the Phoenix Park because of the walking access to all that Capitol Hill area has to offer, so we left the car parked and enjoyed the beauty of the parks, fountains and buildings and took advantage of neighborhood restaurants and bars including the well known and popular Dubliner located on the bottom level of the hotel. We were sorry that we did not stay longer because there are so many interesting sights nearby and we were so happy with our accommodations. We definitely will be planning another stay and already have a list of things to do within walking distance of the Phoenix Park.

“Cute hotel”

PPH is in a great location- if you take the metro in to Union Station, exit the station, turn right, walk down to the corner, and Phoenix Park is right there. Standing outside of the hotel, you can also see the Capitol building. It's a super nice hotel, with a really nice TV in the room. We only stayed one night, and wished we hadn't brought out car, because the cost of parking was $30 ish for the night, and they didn't advertside that. It's expensive, but great for the DC area. Didn't try the bar, but heard it's great.

“Fabulous Hotel”

We stayed at this hotel for two nights as part of a coast to coast tour of the States by rail. It was one of our favourite hotels of the entire trip.
Our bedroom was very comfortable with a lovely high bed.
We ate in the Irish bar which is part of the hotel and the food was of a very high standard. The staff were always friendly and polite.
The hotel is in a very good location, just across from Union Station.
I would thoroughly recommend it.
