“Great Value - booked at Hotwire”

Phoenix Park Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Northampton, Massachusetts
Aug 21, 2008

Great rate - under $105/nt with fees from Hotwire.

Hotel is conveniently located nearby Union Station and the metro. Easy walk to Capitol, Supreme Court, etc. Beds were very comfortable. Room is small, but enough space for 3 people to move around without feeling cramped. Very clean. AC worked very well. Excellent HD Flat Screen to watch the olympics on.

Did not park "at" the hotel - $32/nt valet - instead parked at Union Station Lot for $19/nt. Paid $38 for 2 nights, instead of $64+tip.

Overall great stay, convenient, clean, updated, comfortable beds/linens. Would absolutely stay again and recommend.

    • Liked — location, beds/linens, HD flat screen
    • Disliked — valet parking rate - which we bypassed

“Would definitely stay again”

Phoenix Park Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Ithaca, NY
Aug 20, 2008

Stayed for two nights. Excellent location for my purposes: just across from the Union Station metro and walking distance to the Capitol building.

Room was quite nice, especially for the price (<$100 USD/night) and included free wireless internet. There's an Irish pub/restaurant downstairs, with outdoor seating. I ran into a handful of other people who had also booked rooms at the Phoenix Park and we were all quite happy with our rooms.

“Convenient position...but some reservations”

My husband and I stayed in the Phoenix Park for three nights in August having chosen it on the basis of Trip Advisor reviews. It is certainly very convenient being just steps away from Union Station and a short distance to the Capitol. The room was very comfortable....after we had asked to be moved because of an air conditioning unit right outdside the window of the original room we had been allocated. The bed was very comfortable and the room of adequate size for a short stay and average for what one expects in a city. The bathroom was tiny and there was really no where to set toiletries. The one thing I really did not like was the fact that there is basically no public seating area in the hotel. There are a few chyairs in the lobby in a very small space and it is not somewhere one could sit and chat. The Dubliner was just ok. We ate there on the first night of our stay and were not overly impressed. A residents' lounge or area would make a big difference to this hotel as one does not always want to sit in a noisy bar. Overall I would probably recommend it for its location and the comfy beds. There is a very nice Grill type restruant just across the road in the Old Post Office building..... try it.

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Hotel. We understand the lack of public space especially for seating is a concern for our guests. Our property was built in the 1920s and expanded in the 1990s to accommodate for more space but the original architecture presented limitations to what we could do. However we are proud to have preserved the charm of the era in which it was built and it has allowed us to be a member of the prestigious Historic of Hotels of America. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope you welcome you back on a future trip to Washington, DC.

“Do you train some of your staff to be rude, or do they just come by it naturally”

Phoenix Park Hotel

1 of 5 stars
St. Petersburg, Florida
Aug 18, 2008

Having stayed here a number of times previously I thought it a good place for a brief stay with a friend. There's not enough room here to list all the complaints, but the primary one is the rudeness of the wait staff and refusal of a "hostess" to seat us at a table because there were only two of us. An extremely rude man came to the desk and told us many people like the place. If that's true good taste must be deteriorataing in the nation's capital. As if we don't have enough other problems emanating here! Beds WERE comfortable, but who wants to sleep 24 hours a day?

Thank you for your feedback. We have forwarded it to our restaurant manager as the restaurant located in our building is owned and operated separately from the Phoenix Park Hotel. We hope that your stay was still a pleasant one. We welcome any additional feedback you may have regarding our property.

“Fabulous location”

Phoenix Park Hotel

My husband and I arrived late after a Bay Bridge truck accident caused massive traffic backups, so we were very tired and hungry. We were greeted by an understanding employee who generously upgraded our room and directed us to the Irish bar where they were still serving food and singing Irish songs.

The hotel is located up the hill from the Capitol and a block from Union Station- an absolutely wonderful location to see D.C. Our room was great, the bed and pillows so comfortable. The large, flat screen TV with HD was terrific. We even received complimentary drink coupons and a VIP chocolate gift.

Everyone with whom we had contact with was friendly and helpful, from the front desk to the doorman. We will definitely return to the Phoenix Park and recommend it to anyone looking for a great location at a very reasonable price- $99 on Sunday, and $149 on Monday. In a big city, that's a real bargain!
