“Great stay at the Madison”

The Madison

just back from a holiday in USA which started with a 5 night stay at the Madison. The hotel was excellent in every respect - lovely rooms which were always spotlessly clean and an abundance of soft, fluffy towels in the big bathroom , excellent service from all staff who were always friendly and helpful. Didn't eat at the hotel at all but lots of coffee shops close by for breakfast if you want bagels, muffins etc. We enjoyed the breakfast bagels from Cosi which was on the next block and would also recommend "The Old Ebbit Grill" for dinner( this is only a short walk, away near the White House). The hotel was in a very good location with all the major sights within walking distance and we always felt quite safe walking around the area, even later at night after dark.

“Brief and Enjoyable Stay”

The Loews Madison is a solid choice for a stay in DC's business district. We spent time there while picking up our daughter from a nearby summer program at GWU -- technically pleasure, but for all intents and purposes business. The public spaces of the hotel (lobby, etc.) are immaculate, reflective surely of the grand reputation the property has enjoyed in the past. The rooms, although clean, spacious, and completely satisfactory, were not stylistically inspired; the carpet and the paint job showed a bit of wear in our particular guestrooms, although that may or may not be a result of our probable assignment to a pet-friendly room, as we travelled with our dog (who was made to feel most welcome, by the way). We had done the monuments tour several times before, so proximity to the National Mall and such was not a priority. There are certainly lodging options closer to those sites than the Madison, but the distance is doable. It's also a short jaunt away from Georgetown, a visit to which is certainly recommended, if just for a temporary reduction of the frenetic pace of life in Washington. The staff at the Madison are consummate overachievers, the friendliest we've experienced in quite a while, and an unexpected and welcome surprise for an urban hotel such as this. Everyone from the doorman to the room service operator to the bellman did their best to please in a pleasant manner. Overall, we'd recommend this hotel as a dependable, comfortable, and even elegant choice for a stay in the capital city.

“4 Stars for the Massage Chair alone!”

The Madison

4 of 5 stars
New York City, New York
Jul 27, 2008

We stayed at a Loews Madison for a weekend trip in DC. We found a nice promotion from Travelzoo for $130 for a Saturday night stay, which was a pleasant one.

Upon entering the room, our eyes were set on a leather massage chair by the window. My wife and I probably used the chair 6 or 7 times in a 24 hours span it was so good. This wasn't just a massage chair that vibrated. The chair dug deep into your back and shoulders and neck. What a pleasant surprise!

The room itself was a standard Loews room - decent sized with a decent sized bathroom with several amenities. Clean room with a comfortable bed, although they could have used a few more pillow choices.

All staff we encountered greeted us with a smile and hello and wanted to make sure any needs we had were met.

The location of the hotel is a good one, although its pretty dead around the area on the weekend. The hotel is located within 10-30 min walking distance to the White House, Smithsonian, Capitol, etc.

“Nice Stay but not overwhelmed”

We recently stayed here for two nights while my husband was in DC for business. It has a nice welcoming lobby and friendly staff but that was about as far as the wow factor went for me. The website claims the hotel was renovated in 2008 but that must be an ongoing process as the room we stayed in was clearly not renovated. Worn carpet, peeling wallpaper, and painted chipped in several places. We also didn't have a coffee maker in the room and wifi was only available in the lobby and second floor. Not ideal for a business travel but at least it was a speedy connection. We could also hear the comings and goings of other guests and housekeeping knocking on the doors around us. Again not ideal. The bed was comfortable and the furniture fit the hotel's theme. Overall it was a nice and convenient location for tourist places but it just wasn't for us.

I would stay here again...

The Madison is a beautiful hotel. The rooms were nice, the beds were super comfy, and it's a good value. I got the room for 120-130/night via Hotwire and I thought it was a great deal. The rates on Orbitz / Expedia were < $200 and worthwhile as well.

The staff were super helpful and very friendly. Everything was clean and comfy. Street parking is available with a little bit of work.

The hotel is great, though it lacks certain comforts, such as a pool. As noted by other reviewers, the location is not the greatest. There are few restaurants / shops nearby, but there are some nice restaurants within walking distance 5+ blocks away or so. It's also not the most convenient location, it's between Dupont Circle and the White House, so it's a little bit far from everything, but still walkable to all the sights. A bike is perfect for this location.
