“A wonderful family vacation”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

Our family of four stayed at the Marriott Anaheim Residence Inn from July 8 to July 20, 2008 and we could not be more pleased. The room offered two queen size beds, a lovely living room with a pull out couch and fireplace, a full kitchen including a large refrigerator/freezer, full stove, sink dining table, and microwave. The room had a spacious bathroom with a separate changing area. There were 2 TV's which was nice for relaxing in the evening after being in Disneyland.

Parking was good, as was the pool and tennis area. I must add that it was difficult to park near your suite so it was a short walk from the car to the room.

It was great having free wireless in the room and outside of our room near the courtyard. The courtyard had a nice seating area and a couple of gas grills. We were able to log on quickly while having breakfast, before heading out for the day.

The grocery shopping service was fantastic. We ordered some whole fruit to take to the parks and it was as fresh as I would have chosen myself.

The desk staff was very accomodating. The breakfast buffet varied by day with consistent oatmeal, fruit salad, bananas, toast, muffins, yogurt, scrambled eggs, meat, cereal, and lovely make your own waffles which was a treat for the kids. The workers did a great job keeping the tables clean and the food replenished. It is often crowded at breakfast but we never found it difficult to find a clean table.

Our room was kept spotless and the linens were refreshed often. The housekeeping staff was very accomodating as well.

We paid $101 per night plus tax and felt that we received a good deal during the tourist season, especially with free breakfast , free parking and free wireless. We drove to the park and did not rely on Anaheim Transit. It is $12 per day to park at the Disneyland parks. We froze our water bottles and packed our own small meals/snacks which helped keep costs inside the parks down.

If you are in Anaheim with your family, you must try a great Italian restaurant (chain) Buca Di Beppa on Harbor Blvd. We ate at TIFFYS and it was by far the most disgusting food I have ever been served, and it was expensive. The Garden Walk across from the hotel and Downtown Disney had some great restaurants.

The Motel 6 and Wyndham World Mark are the hotels closest to this property. It is in a nice area, very close to the freeway (5).

Overall we had a great stay and hope to stay at the Marriott Residence Inn when we return to Anaheim.

How much fun could we have! I was so shocked to read a bad review from the same time we were at the same hotel! We had such a great time! We arrived on thursday the 24th of July and were met by the most accomodating and wonderful staff! 3 cheers for Cathy at the front desk! She was so fantastic! We had a two bedroom loft room booked for 4 nights and couldn't have imagined staying anywhere else. Everything we asked for appeared with no wait. Upon arrival we asked for extra towels and in less than 5 minutes they were there. We were staying to celebrate a 40th birthday and the hotel provided a cake! and were right on the case with extra trash bags and everything we could need. One of our guests decided to stay the night and again Cathy swung into action booking us a one bedroom next to our room. Before the party started we realized we could use a baby gate. I have never stayed anywhere that in a blink of an eye got us a baby gate to keep our youngest guest in place. We had such a wonderful time. The hotel has free wifi. It works very well. The hotel has free breakfast. It is the basic hotel freebie, waffle makers, cereal, eggs etc. but what more can you want for free? The hotel does not have a free shuttle to disney - the shuttle is 3 usd per adult and 1usd per child round trip, but it is so quick and there are actually two stops at the hotel. On the side is 7A that is the one that stops at the hotel and at the back of the property is the stop for 7B that is actually listed as the Motel 6 stop but was closer to our room! The shuttle dropped you off right out front and even though we could have parked cheaper by packing everyone in one car, it was so nice to have the shuttle waiting just for us! and having the option of 7A or 7B meant we never waited more that 5 minutes for a shuttle. Safety? We felt totally safe! And even better just across the street is a place called Anaheim Gardenwalk - check it out! Although we had a full on kitchen in our room we ate out every night! PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, Bubba Gumps among the larger places to eat and several smaller places to grab snacks! There is a new cinema there too and we managed to squeeze in two films during our stay. The pool in the hotel was a decent size, there were two BBQ grills, and a tennis court where the kids spent loads of time! All in All I honestly loved this place! Yes I can be honest - the one downside - the floor in the room was filthy and they said there would be on the case to have the floors cleaned! If you don't tell them they don't know!

“Wonderful accommodations”

We stayed at this hotel from July 12 - 26, 2008 and could not have been happier. We are a family of four; two parents, accompanied by our 17 and 19 year old kids. We stayed in one of the bi-level units with two bedrooms - one in the loft, and one on the main floor. Having two complete bathrooms was wonderful, as was the fact that our two teens each had their own bed (bunkbeds) without using the sofabed in the living room. The suite was very clean, and well-equipped with a full kitchen and three televisions! All buildings were clean and well-maintained, and the grounds were well manicured and attractive. We had a lemon tree outside our door! The fact that the pool is open 24 hours is also a bonus, and the pool is clean and well looked after. The location is great - about a 10 minute walk to Disneyland, and across the street from the new Gardenwalk complex, We did drive to Disneyland some days, as we had purchased our passes through CAA (Canadian version of AAA) and they included free parking, but it was an easy walk in a very safe neighborhood. The breakfast buffet was well prepared, clean, well maintained and more than adequate with everything you can imagine or want for breakfast. Not fancy - but substantial. I used the laundry facilities, and the appliances were clean and inexpensive - $1.25 for a wash cycle, and the same for a drying cycle. All staff at this location were extremely friendly, efficient, professional, clean, and well-groomed. Parking was never an issue - if returning late in the evening, it was not always possible to park directly in front of our building, but the greatest distance we had to walk was not more than 10 - 12 parking spaces away. Having the larger physical space of a suite, and not just a hotel room, for a two week time period was absolutely invaluable to the enjoyment of our vacation. We would absolutely stay at this hotel again.

“Don't Do It - Stay at the Doubltree instead”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

We booked this following the good reviews on Trip Advisor... don't be fooled - it is awful, we expect something a lot better with the Marriott name. Rooms are extremely dated, not particularly clean, dark, dingy, very thin walls and no in-room safe. Didn't feel particularly secure there. Within 5 minutes of checking-in, we were making enquiries with other hotels in the area, unfortunately all fully booked. :-( Breakfast - awful. Extremely crowded, not a great selection on offer, poor quality, had the feeling of a Butlins camp from about 40 years ago. For the same money, stay the at Doubletree instead!

“Perfect Accommodation For Families”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

5 of 5 stars
Launceston, Australia
Jul 17, 2008

I am a travel agent of 20 years experience from Launceston, Tasmania, Australia and I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough. As a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children ages 11/8/6yrs), this property offered everything we could have wanted. We stayed here for 14 nights 08-22June 2008, in a 2 Bedroom Kids Penthouse Suite - Room 1022.
The main bedroom is located upstairs on a mezzanine floor. King size Bed, plenty of room, TV and ensuite. As this room is open i.e. no door at the top of the stairs and a half height wall looking down onto the living area, the nightlight on the stairs took a couple of nights to get used to, but this was very minor.
The 2nd bedroom downstairs consisted of a double bunk bed double bed on the bottom and single bed on top, ensuite and TV. Our 3 children shared this room and we had no problems whatsoever. In the living room, yet another TV, overhead fan, lounge suite, that can be made into a sofa bed, fire place. Kitchen facilities is more than adequate. Large refrigerator, microwave, cutlery, crockery etc. Rooms were very well kept, extremely clean, with daily service. Also units are air-conditioned. The mini market was a godsend for late night snacks/drinks. The property was very clean and the children loved the pool. I would probably say the pool would be approx 15metres long x 4metres wide, and ample seating in a fenced off area. There is also a basketball court. My wife utilised the coin operated laundry and had no complaints. Breakfast was very good, from fully cooked breakfast, bacon, eggs, cereals to making your own waffles (as per other reviews, I would suggest early seating). Wednesday nights also had the resort putting on free hotdogs / crisps /fruit /fries etc, for a late afternoon/evening snack. This generally filled us up and wasquite adequate as an evening meal. There is an internet access in the lounge area off the main reception area. This worked very well.
Staff are extremely courteous / helpful, with nothing a problem from ordering a taxi, to encashment of travellers cheques.
The property is situated approximately an easy 15 minute walk from Disneyland. Our 6 year old had no trouble walking this at all, even after a long day at Disneyland, to then walking to Harbour Boulevard for a meal in the evening. Although I must say, when we were in the USA it was hot, averaging around 90F daily, approx 32C, and with walking around Disneyland, standing in constant queues, the ART (Disney Shuttle) was a godsend to know that we could sit down and enjoy the short ride to the hotel.
The ART is good value, a day ticket is priced at USD3.00 per adult and USD1.00 per child..I think that was the split as our price was USD11.00 for unlimited travel on this service, as our 11 year old was priced as an adult. The first couple of days to Disneyland we did the usual and stayed all day, but it was hopelessly crowded, with rides in excess of 70minute waiting time. The fastpass proved extremely popular as well, although you can only fastpass one ride at a time. If travelling in summer and especially with children, I would recommend catching the ART to Disneyland in the morning, enjoying a few hours at the parks, then returning to the hotel for a swim, rest until mid/late evening and then returning back to the park. This worked very well for us and the children were more relaxed this way. The ART runs every half hour - bus number 7.
To the left of the resort on the corner of Clementine Street and I think Katela Avenue, a wonderful eating place is the Cheescake Factory. We can highly recommend this eatery. This place gets packed meals are huge and worth the price tag. A dinner here costs approx USD80.00 for the five us..We had 3 adult size meals and 2 children meals, my wife a couple of wines, me a couple of beers and the children free refills of soft drink. Meals are either Burgers or if craving non fast food, pasta / steaks etc. As stated all meals are huge, good atmosphere, but get in early, you may have to wait awhile for a table.
I can thorughly recommend this property to everyone and would have no hesitation in selling it to my clients. Loved it
