“Good family place for Disneyland”

Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate

4 of 5 stars

We (wife, 18-year-old son and I) stayed here in August, 2008 for two nights. We had one of the "loft" rooms, which means there's a king bed in a loft overlooking the living room, and a queen bed in a room adjacent to the living room.

The room has a full kitchen, living room with fireplace, and a bathroom area off each bedroom. Downstairs the bathroom is a separate room; upstairs, the sink is in the open loft, with tub in a small room adjacent.

I know people sometimes care about this due to mobility problems - both rooms have tub/shower combos. I got the impression somewhere that it was a shower only upstairs, but that was not the case, at least not in this room.

The room is pleasant, if a bit industrial - this is not a five-star hotel, this is a typical mid-market extended stay hotel. The carpet could stand to be restretched in a couple high traffic spots.

The rooms are in 25 two-story buildings. If your room is an upper room, there are outdoor stairs to climb to get there. No elevators (not to be expected given the layout.)

Amenities are good for the class - a nice buffet breakfast every morning is included. There's an attractive hotel pool, sports court, and "business center" that appears to consist of a single computer and printer. That's enough; this isn't really a normal Residence Inn aimed at the business traveler; this one is a resort RI aimed at people going to Disneyland.

Next to the front desk is "The Market", a small area with shelves, refrigerated and freezer cases with food and snacks. They don't have many of anything, but they have a good variety of basic groceries and snacks. For example, in the grocery arena, there are 3 or 4 peanut butters, 3 or 4 jelly, 4 loaves of bread, 2 boxes of spaghetti and 4 spaghetti sauces - so low quantities of everything, but that's just a start at the variety. I'm really pretty impressed. You pay at the front desk for your purchases, or can charge it back to your room.

There were a few minor problems with the room - I think they probably would have addressed them if asked, but I didn't. The coffee pot had a chip out of the carafe' pour spout, which made it impossible to not spill when pouring. The dishwasher isn't properly installed - there should be screws up into the underside of the counter, or some other attachment method, but they aren't there. It may be that the granite counter top stymied whoever installed it, but there are special kits from the dishwasher manufacturers to deal with that. It's a little disconcerting to have the dishwasher move that much. I'll mention the carafe at check-out, and the dishwasher problem is probably common to all the units.

Of course, the most important thing about a hotel can be its staff, and the staff here was uniformly nice and helpful. The front desk staff cheerfully got us checked in, showed me where the room was on the little map, and were pleasant latter when making purchases from "The Market."

If anyone is wondering about the 4 rather than 5 score, I'm just a hard grader, and I've stayed at some truly phenomenal hotels in my travels, so 4 is probably all a Residence Inn could get from me.

“Think Disney”

First, I must say that my stay was based on many reviews reviewed by Travel Advisor.com. I took many days to read and review the details and came to the conclusion that the Marriott Residence was the place for my family to stay during the Disneyland dream vacation we had planned. I must say that the check in seemed delightful but the room ended up street side which is exactly what I DID NOT request and so I had to go back to the lobby and again let the desk know I was a single mom traveling and wanted to be close to the pool and lobby. The second time around they got it right. I also requested a wake up call for the early morning. Strangely, I received a wake up call at 11:30 pm, bummer, and I had the sense to call the desk and tell them they had the wrong wake up time. "Check it again...." After again some forward focusing they got it right and I was set up for the correct time. Breakfast is good. It's not great. It's also really, really meant for you not to take ANYTHING with you. Yogurt is in a big clumsly bowl, doesn't seem terribly sanitary, all juices, snacks, granola, etc., is in big bowls so you really have to take what you want and eat it there. With the prices there should be a few packs to go kind of things. I realize the hotel is discouraging you from taking anything beyond your breakfast but it is sometimes unreasonable to assume all guests, kids included, will be able to woof down their breakfast at 6:30... This is the time to do breakfast and I think most guests would agree it would be nice to have some items that were packaged "to go". This is not a $79.00 special! Breakfast is rotating and reasonable. Eggs are RUNNY. LET ME REPEAT - RUNNY. Waffles are good with the exception of an amazing beeper - buzzer that lets you know the waffle is done. Very unpleasant noise... Overall behavior in the dining area is good with good staff help. The Disney Desk Lady - 7:15 is a grump. I was very unimpressed with her "take it or leave it" kind of attitude. I refused to let her blow my day but she seems burnt out, at best. Pool is great, rooms are good, parking is good, shuttle is great. Front desk is weary, some - younger - unskilled. I would stay here mostly because of the overall value, package but I do believe they could umph up the smiles and warmth. Good tip - people staying here were from all over the world - New Zealand, Canada, elsewhere and were gracious guests. That is what ultimately made my stay fantastic.

“Somewhat Disappointed- For some may still be a good spot”

I was somewhat disappointed based on what I was expecting after reading all the glowing reviews. Compared to other Residence Inns I have stayed at, this was somewhat dated and had some minor issues such as: the bathroom was not very clean; very little toilet paper on roll with no spare ( although they did send up some promptly upon our request); the coffee maker water reservoir was full of clumps of mold; considering all sofa beds are not great...this was probably among the most uncomfortable; each night we had to park quite far from our room; the breakfast room was extremely crowded and noisy and the food really wasn't that good.( although there was lots of food and staff running around). On the plus side the hotel is close to the park, it has pleasant staff, and the grounds are nice. I guess if you have a large family and pets, this would be a good spot considering the various room size options, and the kitchen facilities. In addition the pool is open 24 hours.

“Great Place to stay.”

Just arrived back after a 17 day stay, cannot praise this place highly enough. The front desk staff Roger, Ashley, Kimberley, Jay, and Grant were superb. How they manage to cope is beyond me. Service with a smile. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them they were all stars. The room we stayed in was great. We had a 2 Queen Bed Room. Having a Lounge and Kitchen was fantastic. Our 12 year Old loved having a TV in the lounge and Bedroom. There were no fights over what TV shows to watch. The Kitchen appeared to be brand new and it was well decked out with utensils. We made use of the Fridge Freezer and the Microwave came in Handy as we purchased lunch on 2 occasions from the Hotel store. The pool area was a great place to relax plenty of sunbeds and jacuzzi. was open till arounf 12 a.m. great when returning from the Parks. Disney a flat 15 min walk. I cannot fault this place and I am quite a critical traveller. Highly recommended.

This hotel was selected based upon TripAdvisor reviews, and we were not disappointed. Not wanting to get ripped off by the absurdly overpriced hotels in Disneyland, we found this hotel to be a very good value. Our particular room had a private master bedroom with a comfortable king size bed (the unit was a true suite, with a bedroom door that closed) separate from a living room with fireplace, sofa-bed / full kitchen / full bath plus a very usable balcony. (There are at least 3 floor plans, and this one was the middle-priced one, and would be my recommendation for small families needing separate sleeping areas.)
The hotel is far more pleasant than the numerous, depressing concrete-surrounded hotels outside of Disneyland, because it is landscaped with many palm trees and gardens between free-standing units. The proximity to Disneyland makes a brisk walk to the park possible. We took the shuttle which could be used all day for a flat fee --we never waited more than 15 minutes for it either direction. The breakfast is the best self-serve breakfast I've seen in any hotel, an operation offering both cold and hot food constantly replenished by an efficient kitchen staff. One can save a lot of money on this meal alone, which is included in the room fee. The room was pleasant, the kitchen was well-stocked with dishes and utensils, the furnishings were in overall good condition, the linens comfortable, and the room was very clean. The hotel staff was approachable and friendly. (A very personable front desk person named Grant was very helpful -- Mariott, give this young man a raise!) For it's category and price, it would be hard to improve upon.
