We stayed for 1 week in condo 2-2B. We liked the location being able to take the golf cart into town daily was essential. The property was nice. We had some issues with the condo. I know they are individually owned but some standards should be maintained. The beds were comfortable, but they had plastic protectors on them with only a sheet between you and the plastic. Noisy and hot! The maid service as stated before was inconsistent. There were no essentials i.e. soap for dishes, napkins or paper towels. I too ended up drying the towels and putting them away. We had to borrow dish washer detergent since the maid did not wash the dishes that were in the dishwasher. We did not find Elianzar helpful. We asked about a bakery, fresh fish and produce and he just said go to the local market. He did not mention the Chicken Drop or offer any activities that were not in his "book". The only time he was helpful was when we were booking a tour or making a dinner reservation. I'm sure he got some kind of kickback for it. Also we went cave tubing on a Thursday, we had a great time, but it was crowded. One of the guest informed us when we got back, that the cruse ships come in to Belize city on Thursdays and that is why it was crowded. We felt that Elianzar should have told us this. We could have gone another day. There were no beach towels in the unit, we did bring our own. Over all this was an ok property but not worth the price.

Pelican Reef was a terrific getaway for my husband and two teenage daughters. The two bedroom condo we stayed in was right on the beach and was beautifully furnished and very comfortable and clean. We had daily maid service and received excellent service from Lori, Eliazar, Caesar and Greg! The staff made you feel right at home. Yes, the road can be rough in a golf cart, but that was part of the fun and adventure for us! The people of San Pedro were very friendly and we always felt safe as we made our way around town. The excursions, although expensive, were fun and fulfilled all of our expectations. Even though Pelican Reef doesn't have a restaurant, there was an abundance of good food in San Pedro. Overall, this was one of the best family vacations we have ever had and I highly recommend Pelican Reef Villas.

We stayed at Pelican Reef earlier in the Spring and while the resort is beautiful and the rooms top notch, there are some glaring problems.

There is almost no maid service as another reviewer stated and no food service at all at the resort. For an exhorbatant fee of $225 US you can rent a golf cart to take the long, muddy road into San Pedro. Remember that this is still the 3rd world. Along the way, you never feel quite safe and there is a large lagoon that is between you and town that is frequented by very unruly teenagers looking to stir up the local alligators.

The pool is very small and the drinks aren't exactly cheap.

The biggest problem is that the resort is actually a condo community and I have to say the residents were less than friendly to my friend and me. It was very much like being at a party where no one knows you.

Pelican Reef is a place to get away from it all. It is isolated and pretty but if you are looking for amenities and great service, I would have to suggest elsewhere.

We just returned from 5 nights at Pelican Reef and can not say enough good things about our experience. We did alot of research on where to stay with our family of 5 and would not change a thing. The condos are only a year and a half old and very well maintained. We delt with Lori directly setting up our reservation and she was very helpful from booking our flights to San Pedro to answering any questions we had. They pick you up at the small airstrip and in 10 minutes you are there. We really enjoyed being about a 15 minute golf cart ride from town and were glad we were not any closer since it gets very "touristy" the closer you get. They rent golf carts on premise which was nice. The staff was extremely helpful and Eliazar (the man!) will arrange anything you need or want from tours to fishing to making dinner reservations. The owner/developer lives right there in one of the condos so everything is kept in top notch condition. The beach is uncrowded and there is a long pier off the beach that you can snorkel right off of. We would definitely stay there again.

“GREAT week at the Pelican Reef!!!”

We stayed at the Pelican Reef Villas Resort from June 14 - 20, 2008. It was an amazing week!! I can't say enough great things about this property! All of the other reviews are accurate! Lori was just a delight and so helpful. Eliazar was so kind and informative and was always there if you needed assistance - he is a gem! As you can see in our pictures, several days we had the pool and beach all to ourselves! And we were looking for a very quiet, relaxing week - so it was perfect! The grounds are immaculate! And inside the condo was very clean and first class accommodations! The kitchen was completely filled with any type of cooking and baking utensils you could need!! The a/c worked like a dream – no dampness on this island resort! Lori and Eliazar were so helpful in recommending restaurants to dine at, must-see places and general information on the island. The pool was sparkling and so relaxing! The swim up bar was so fun for drinks and good conversation. The beach was so quiet and peaceful! We never tired of the view! Most days people were out doing excursions, so the property was quiet and very peaceful. There is sea grass growing in the water on the beach property, so you cannot swim off the beach. You can walk down to the end of the pier and swim around that area. We heard sea grass is important to the marine life.

The mosquitoes were very bad on the beach and inland. This was from the tropical storm a few weeks before. We just loaded up with “Off” and knew that was part of island living. It did not affect our trip.

We rented a golf cart from the resort - we used it daily to go to town for shopping and meals. It is about a 15-20 minute ride to town. (The villas are about 2.5 miles south of San Pedro.) You will pass a big swamp/lake and the local boys will feed the 10 foot (!!) alligators for you to watch (and a tip). I felt kind of bad for the alligators being tempted with the chicken meat. We did not stay long because the alligators move fast on land!

There is also a big homeless animal problem on the island. I encourage everyone to visit the SAGA Animal Shelter on the island (close to the villas) and make a donation, or adopt an animal!!(You can bring them back to the USA.) They had so many darling ones!!

We dined at some great restaurants in town with very good prices: Carumba's, Elvi's, Blue Water Grill, Sunset Grill. Casa Pan Dulce Bakery has pastries that you must get and enjoy at your condo - Divine!
Fido's and Mr. Joes are near the villas and have great cheeseburgers for lunch! (Loved the round fries at Fido's!)
One night we wanted to stay in and Eliazar recommended Pepperoni's Pizzeria because they deliver. Eliazar set it all up for us! And it was the best delivery pizza I have ever eaten!!

The villas also arranged for a ½ day snorkel trip to Hol Chan Marine Reserve, Shark-Ray Alley. I have attached a few pictures from it. It is a Must-Do on your trip!!! The boat will pick you up right off the pier!

Pelican Reef Villas was a great place to stay and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a five star, relaxing beach vacation. I hope we can return there again soon! Email me if you have any questions.
