The cookery workshop is held a short car ride away from the main hotel in the most amazing location. The gardens and swimming pool are absolutely beautiful and very relaxing, unfortunately you can’t swim in the pool as it is for guests only.
We were given a very informative explanation of Moroccan food, spices and ingredients by Mohammed before making our way up to the most amazing kitchen I have ever seen.
My husband cooked Chicken tagine with preserved lemons and olives and as I am vegetarian I was shown how to cooked a vegetable (Berber) tagine. There are a maximum of 6 students in each class and the pace was very easy going.
Once we had the salad and tagines prepared we had time to enjoy the grounds and explore the wonderful gardens before eating the lunches we had prepared.
My husband who is a novice cook enjoyed the session and learning the different skills. I very much enjoyed learning about the different ingredients and meals but I am a much more adventurous cook and did feel that I would have liked to have learned more. One of the ladies peeled and chopped most of my vegetables for me so all I really had to do was put everything in the tagine and add the spices.

I think this is an excellent session for beginners but maybe not for the more adventurous. However we did learn lots about what to look for in a tagine and have come home with 2 ready to amaze all our friends.

“Flavour of Morocco”

La Maison Arabe Cooking Workshops

Apr 2, 2008

We spent a wonderful morning learning how to cook some real Moroccan food and enjoyed eating the results for lunch. We have now tried to cook it back in England, but it just doesn't taste quite the same when it is cold and wet outside. Overall this was one of the highlights of our holiday and the memories of it will live on every time we cook a tagine.

“Must Do Activity in Marrakech”

My husband and I took the Arabe cooking workshop on March 20, 2008. We had a fantastic experience. Mohammed was a great food instructor. His English is perfect (he is an English Professor) and he is very patient (great for novice cooks). This class was a wonderful break from the busy Medina and another wonderful way to immerse oneself into the culture of Morocco. I would highly recommend this activity.

“a wonderfull, inspiring place”

My friend and I took a cooking course given by Maison Arabe. We booked this on the site of the hotel (in which we did not stay, way above our budget!) and arrived at the hotel, where we met two other couples and were taken by shuttle to a very beautifull and luxurious villa outside of Marrakech (bring bathing gear, there is a wonderfull pool!). There, we met up with Mohammed, a very nice english teacher and translator for the local cook who showed us how to make a real Marocan tagine and salad. Though not very difficult to make, it was very, very tastefull and inspired us to buy a tagine in the medina and take it all the way home with us (heavy, but it arrived in one piece!)
I would really recommend taking this course; it gives you a real 'taste' of Marrakech.

“Wonderful Culinary Experience”

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class at La Maison Arabe. Mohammed was a perfect guide/translator and the tagine class capped a wonderful week in Morocco. The chicken tagine we made was actually the best we had in Morocco. We'll try to duplicate it at home!

I would highly recommend the class for anyone looking to learn a bit more about Moroccan culture/cuisine or just looking for a fun afternoon.
