Stayed here after being disappointed with Pathumwan Princess.
Great room! Large floor area, polished timber floors, big and clean bathroom, separate living room and kitchenette. Great price too (3,800 baht), about 1,000 baht less than PP.
Breakfasts are average to good, but the omelet chef is great! She deserved the tip I gave her on our last day at the hotel. However, the waiters need English lessons and we found the female restaurant staff generally rude.
A couple of things disappointed me...
The concierge staff, while generally pretty good (they booked restaurants for us and arranged a taxi for a day trip to Ayuthaya) tried to send me to a tailor of THEIR choice (was there a commission in it for them?) when I specifically asked to go to a different tailor (from my research on this site).
Also, the night before we left we requested a scale so we could weigh our bags. This was left just inside the door so that it could be found easily once we had departed.
As we were leaving, the bell/concierge staff refused to load our bags into the waiting taxi until our room had been checked, and then a lady came up to us asking whether we had taken the scale and 2 hand towels!
It took a few seconds for me to realise they were actually accusing us of stealing the scale and hand towels. I explained to her that the scale was in the room and the towels had not actually been replaced the day before (because we inadvertently left the 'Privacy please' button on all day). Then the duty manager physically felt our bags (to satisfy himself that we were telling the truth) before telling his staff to load our bags into the taxi.
Because of this, I don't know whether I would stay here again. But it is a nice hotel with good rates and in a good location.

Dear SydDR,
Thank you for your kind comments on your last stay at the Solitaire.
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.
The Solitaire indeed offers great value for money with large sized all equipped suites with 42" Plasma TV's and free wifi at great deals.
Thank you for your compliments to our egg station chef! We indeed receive a lot of good feedback on the Buffet breakfast. Please accept our apologies if you encountered some difficulties while communicating with the Restaurant team. Our employees are enrolled on a yearly basis in English courses and we will look into improving this situation immediately.
We would like to apologize as well for the recommendations made by the Bell men. All recommendations are based on an official guidebook and we are sorry to hear that our team was too eager to recommend a different tailor from the one that you wished to call.
Regarding your departure, kindly be informed that the bellmen as per procedure need to wait for the whole check out process to be finalized before calling a taxi to ensure all is complete and any deposit or other is returned to the guest.
Please rest assured that we always value and show trust to our guests as we wish every guest to stay with us again.
We hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back to the Solitaire shortly again.
Kind regards,
Nathalie Burtin
