“Very nice and comfortable hotel”

Adelphi Suites Bangkok

5 of 5 stars
Chittagong
Aug 1, 2008

This is really nice hotel in Heart of Bangkok, Sukumvit. I visited this hotel by reading review from this website. I stayed 14 nights with my Wife and two child. We have been there from Bangladesh. Our one bed room has got 2 Flat 48" Samsung TV and 1 DVD Player, Giant Samsung Fridge, Samsung washing machine and dryer, All kitchen items with crockeries and cutlery, Electric Cattle, Iron and iron stand, lot of Drawers and Shelf, Secured Locker. Reception area people are very polite. But they could not do well reservation. I wanted to extend my stay and they said that they don't have available room. But Going to my room in my Laptop I see that their website has got available room and immediately I booked it from there. I am surprised why the receiption people said me has no rooms. Breakfast is good here. It is really better than European and American Hotel I think. I wish success of them.

“Loved the adelphi, most convenient, friendly staff”

Adelphi Suites Bangkok

Jul 29, 2008
2/2 found this review helpful

i just got home after staying 3 nights at the Adelphi and we stayed here because we read reviews on Tipadvisor (and we usually read those reviews from our own countrymen, different people have different standards, so thats just how it is)

first of all this is a nice cosy serviced apartment and that's how we liked it, we didnt want to jostle with the crowds (imagine that in Bangkok :p) and we didn't mind not too grand. This establishment is new (opened previous November) and the furnishings are still in great shape. The Lobby is nice, clean, modern contemporary with a hint of lemongrass fragrance. There are 2 internet stations and wifi is enabled in the hotel. The Cafe is small, nice and cosy and perhaps some people may find that inadequate but we loved it, it had everything we needed for breakfast, eggs, sausages, bacon, grilled tomatoes, salads, rice, thai dish, cornflakes, koko krunch (chocolate flavoured cornflakes), bread, toast, croissants, danishes, muffins, coffee, tea, juices, loved it.

going up to the room you require card access to activate the lift so an added step taken for security. card access to the room. nice clean modern room will all the trappings. flat screen tv with full cable channels and even movie channels, dvd player. large comfy bed, large fridge (not the tiny ones) 2 modern cookers, a nice good area solidsurface countertop, sink, water heater, cutlery, cups, glasses, wine glasses, usual minibar provisions. 2 bottles of water. the interesting thing is the wall mounted bedside lamps with the soft attached night lights (great for people who leave the lights on). now the bath (that would be the clincher right?) All singaporeans who have visited Condominum showrooms will be rest assured, Solid large rectangular raised American Standard brand sinks on countertop. Homogeneous tiles. modern contemporary fittings. nice glass Shower with overhead Rainshower and modern showerhead attached. (No baths but thats ok, all modern asian cities use showers to conserve water). nice homely touch that i liked was the plant in the room and one in the bath. 2 seater sofa, 2 workspaces with chairs.

lap pool and gym and cosy lounge with private view on the 16th storey (hardly anyone everyone's off to do the rounds in bangkok...)

Convenience? literally 2 minute walk to main Sukhumvit Road and turn left and you can see the escalator up to Nana Skytrain (usually all those hotel ads saying how close they are to trainstations are false, this one is even closer then i thought, i'm truly glad my girlfriend convinced me to stay here)

the staff were friendly, efficient and conversant in English, service was efficient especially the Manager, here's my story, i had to get a morning flight in as they had changed my night flight so i wrote in to enquiries to inform them and got a expected standard answer of letting us check in depending on circumstance but that was ok, when i reached the hotel, the manager greeted us at the door, (at first i thought it was a friendly guest on his way out, i thought WOW guests friendly too, gonna like this place) i checked in while my girlfriend chatted with the doorman, then the manager served us tea and towels, and then had the counter staff and doorman whisked us efficiently up to our rooms so efficiently that even i was pleasantly surprised.

they're a 4star boutique cozy serviced apartment and to me, it was perfect, nice, new, clean, modern, efficient, friendly, most importantly convenient place to stay, i dont really want to write a good review because i'm afraid i might not have space to stay next time i come back but hopefully they may have expanded by then haha.

will definitely return. i doubt you can find a more convenient and nicer place to stay unless you want to pay whole lot more(but thats my opinion)

“expect only the basics”

Adelphi Suites Bangkok

3 of 5 stars

Jul 22, 2008
5/9 found this review helpful

I am still staying at the hotel and will check out tomorrow, july 23.
I travel a lot and stay about 40 days a year at hotels worldwide,
so have a broad view of what to expect from hotels. In particular,
this is my third visit to the far east in the last year or so.
I spend many hours at the tripadvisor website when planning
an international trip, and the reviews at the site are usually
extremely helpful. I have never written a review myself, and am
doing that for the first time here, since this hotel is clearly overrated
at tripadvisor. This is an average hotel, and the reviews at the site
fall short of conveying this clearly. I bet that the people who wrote
the raved reviews on adelphi are yet to see the inside of a good
far east hotel. BTW, prior to staying three nights at adelphi, I stayed
3 nights at the holiday inn --bangkok (on ploenchit, about a mile
from adelphi): the holiday inn is about 30% more expensive and is
an order of magnitude better: it is a real hotel.

o.k. so much for the beginning. here are a few pros for adelphi:

1. good location, if you care for nightlife. good restaurants
(especially middleeast), street shopping (medium bargaining)
and prostitution galore.

2. spacious clean rooms, great shower (no bath at my room),
basic kitchen, large desks, free internet (slow at times, but
works).

here are the cons:

1. do not expect any service, and do not expect the people at the
hotel to know what they are doing (example below).

2. I'll rate the free breakfast as the worst I have eaten at the far
east. breakfast at good hotels in china, korea, singapore and
thailand (and may be other countries) should be an unforgetable
experience. the breakfast here is very limited: one thai dish
(green curry, quite good), no cheese, no sausage, one type of
fresh bread, stale pasteries, reasonable fruits, some veggies, 2 types
of cereal, cooked to order eggs. undrinkable coffee, lousy tea.
that's far below a standard breakfast in europe, and has no
connection with a far eastern breakfast that includes a japanese
stations, chinese station, and western station, and everything
cooked to order, fresh, and a real delight. the breakfast here is
better than the synthetic breakfast at US hotels, but once you are
outside US, you really do not want to remember those breakfasts, right?

3. it looks that many corners were cut when the hotels was build:
the lobby is tiny (and quite smelly), the furniture is of low quality,
the flooring (which I do prefer over carpet) is cheap, and the
deterioration is fast. in a year or two this hotel will be worn out
completely.

altogether, if you just want a simple clean hotel for a good night
sleep, you should find cheaper ones. and if you want a solid
quality hotel, you are not getting it here.

my recommendation: get a bit less for a lot less money,
or get much more for a little more money. this hotel is not
a real deal in and direction you look.

finally, here is my personal story (my review above is not biased
because of it):

the hotel does not serve espresso quality coffee at breakfast
(most good hotels in europe and asia do. all the hotels I have
stayed in in those continents in the last two years do. we are talking about 15-20 locations). for some people, like me,
the ability to drink 2-3 cofffee cups in the morning (and not spend
a fortune for those) is important (I have a jura espresso machine
at home). after one day, I approached the management about
this issue, and the guy was nice and said that I, as a special
case, will get free latter at breakfast. Nice, is not it? at any other
hotel this will be it. But here, the restaurants and the hotel are
owned by two different entities. so the hotel cannot tell the
restaurant what to do! I'll cut the story short, but really: do you
want to stay at a hotel where you cannot trust the employees to
deliver on their promises?

finally, the above represents my personal view. My spouse,
who travels with me has a harsher view on the adelphi (and
she was very satisfied with the holiday inn)

Dear Badger 456, Madison

Thank you for written your comments on Trip Advisor. First of all, we would like to apologize that Adelphi Suites doesn’t meet your expectations that you have been received so far in hotels of Far East Asia.
We just would like to inform you about our service that our staffs make an extra effort to make sure our guests are satisfied, giving special attention to service, and volunteering information on the history and attractions.
As you have many points of bad comments, we just want to explain all of your understand about our hotel as following. Regarding to the ranking in Trip Advisor, we don’t get involve as all the comments come directly from our guests.
About the bad smell in the lobby, we are confident that is not true. Actually, it is the opposite what you mention and it is really a pleasant smell. As for our furniture, they are all in a good shape, design, function, quality and safety. In addition, it is clearly stated in our website and the third parties websites that the bathtub is only in our one bed room suite.
Regarding to the breakfast, we think it is very sufficient and adequate as on the buffet we have croissants, danishes, cinnamon rolls, muffins and different 3 types of bread (all bakery items arrive fresh at 6am) all served with butter and jams, 2 different cereals, 3 types of juices, mixed salad and dressings. 2 eggs any style or omelet with onion, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes served with bacon, sausages and grilled tomato, unlimited tea or fresh brewed coffee, and a different vegetarian Thai dish with jasmine rice every day.
We have been dealing with the guests for a good number of year and with the good customer service and care. Any issues that may have occurred, we will solve it with speedily and professionally.

Our job is to make the guest happy and also fulfill unexpected requests.

“Friendly receptionsit and housekeeping staff”

Adelphi Suite locates at the extremely convenient location. The staffs are friendly especially the reception guy and housekeeping staff. The receptionist helped me to fix the labtop coz I didn't know how to connect the internet. The housekeeping staff makes the room very clean everydays. (Everything up to standard, thank you to you all).

The room is clean with modern furniture but some of them are not install properly such as the tap in the kitchen, the studying desk is not really fixed.

In general, only one thing disappinted me was the waiters and waitress are friendly and cheerful to the foreigners but a bit different to the Asians. For example, there was no people escorting us when we entered the coffee shop in the morning. In addition, there was also no one serve us coffee in the breakfast time even we sat for a long time (they were not busy at that time, one waiter was standing at the bar table and the waitress was talking to the favour guest (of course foreigner). They served us finaIly until we asked! I am not quite sure if it is existing race discriminiation in the coffee shop.

However, we apologize for your uncomfortable about the tap and studying desk which we will fix them very soon. Additionally, we are unhappy to hear that you don’t get treat as the same way as other guests. “Great Deal”

Adelphi Suites Bangkok

Jul 15, 2008

This was simply a fabulous deal. Brand new hotel with nice, clean, spacious rooms. We rented a deluxe one bedroom which included dishwasher, washer/dryer, refridgerator, etc. Furnished with two flat screen TV's and at the time under $90 US per night. They had a nice variety of food for the breakfast buffet and the hotel is right near the train, shopping district and a number of fabulous restaurants. Beware of the Tuk-tuk drivers, they are a scam.
