“Paradise -in a tree house”

Fern Paradise

This location is Paradise. The hosts are also wonderful. They made sure everything was perfect for us.
Fern Paradise is set in a wonderful garden of ferns and trees, with a lovely creek flowing by the breakfast outdoor restaurant. It is run by a lovely couple and their sons and families. Nothing was too much trouble for these quiet, welcoming people. They helped us with transport to the city which is about 10 minutes away.
We had a morning tour of the fern garden and a lesson on propegating ferns etc, from the passionate Dad,Niwat, who has studied in Australia and has great English. He also explained the history of the "tree houses" which were actually converted rice barns. They are spaced apart from each other so you can keep your curtains open to enjoy the scenery with privacy.
Not a place if you want a pool or nightlife, for the nightlife we went into town where there are great night markets and lots of restaurants.
This is the most unusual hotel I have stayed in and highly recommend it. It is not the place to meet lots of other travellers as its small, about 9 rooms, but thats part of its magic, its quiet, beautiful, peaceful and absolutely unique, run by a genuinely lovely family.

“Fern Paradis is idyllic and amazing”

Fern Paradise is truly idyllic and relaxing place to stay. It would be perfect if it has a pool. We can just imagine no one would ever want to leave the place if a pool is on site. Service is great and the food ordered is cheap. The room is uniquely designed, everything matched. We would recommend our friends to stay though it was abit far to go to town. Its an experience everyone should have if they are visiting Chiang Mai.

“Very unique”

Fern Paradise

We booked Fern Paradise to experience something different and it didn't disappoint.

Rooms: Accommodations are converted rice barns, which make them quite unique. Ours was the Deluxe Barn and had a living area (i.e. open-air dining room and living room) under the barn. It was very convenient when we wanted to have a meal at our place rather than at the restaurant. The furnishings were rustic and matched the style perfectly. Everything was in good working order (TV, shower, etc.). The kids had fun watching a movie we borrowed from the library located under a neighboring rice barn.
I must agree with a previous reviewer that the beds could be more comfortable. We had requested mattresses for our two kids and they seemed to be a little better than the bed's mattress, although I didn't try them to confirm.

Grounds : The grounds are very well-maintained and create a special atmosphere. It feels like you are deep in a jungle when in fact, you're quite close to downtown (a cheap taxi ride). I loved all the different-looking barns and the open-air restaurant setting. The whole property is very original with lamps made with ferns etc. (at least I assume they were ferns...). I don't like bugs so I was a little apprehensive to go to a place where you are surrounded by vegetation. I am happy to report that there were no problem at all with bugs, i.e. we didn't find any in our barn. It is true that there were mosquitoes but mainly around 5 to 7 PM if I remember correctly.

Service : Definitely 5 stars here. The owners are very hospitable and dedicated to their family business. They really try hard to make sure that your needs are met. One day, I really craved pizza and Om called a pizza place and had one delivered to us at our barn, along with some Thai food that we ordered from Om's wife. Another time, we couldn't figure out how to change the TV to English and Om came to fix it for us. They were always available to help.

Excursions; Om arranged to have a taxi driver for us for a whole day to go visit Doi Suthep and downtown Chiang Mai. The price was very reasonable. We also went to Patara Elephant Camp for a whole day. You basically spend the day taking care of your own elephant, i.e. feeding, bathing, and riding it (bare-back). Highly recommended.

Food: Their Thai food was good but their "western" breakfast was just OK. Meals were not expensive at all.

Overall : We were quite pleased with our unique experience. The two minor negative points I noted above did not affect our overall satisfaction and we would definitely recommend this resort.

“Highly recommended getaway spot in Chiang Mai!”

Fern Paradise is a truly wonderful, exceptional, unique and non-replicable place to stay. The hotel grounds are absolutely gorgeous and meticulously kept. The owner of the hotel, Dr. Niwat, and his family run the hotel and live on the grounds so everything is constantly maintained in a caring manner.
Dr. Niwat has a love of ferns and will happily give you a tour of the over 100 varieties of ferns he has cultivated on the property. He might also teach you about the cultivation of rice and tell you about the rice barns which he has carefully restored to be the facilities in which you stay. My friends and I felt like we were in the Swiss Family Robinson house! We all loved it.
The city of Chiang Mai is about 12 miles away and is an inexpensive (about 200 baht) cab ride away. Om made sure we had a cab whenever we needed one and would sometimes call to make sure we were finding our way okay. SO NICE!!
Breakfast was served by the river. There is an American or Thai option for breakfast, which was good. This place was peaceful, unique, and I'm sure if I were with my boyfriend I would have thought it romantic as well. It has all the luxuries you would want but with the adventure of something new and interesting as well. Highly recommended!

Have just returned from our 1st trip to Thailand and we loved our first visit to Chaing Mai made all the better with a stay at Fern Paradise. The family were very attentive and welcoming. The surroundings beautiful covering a fairly small area this haven managed to capture our hearts!
The stilt rice huts were amazing and very pretty with mosi nets and en suite bathroom - shower a little slow! - bed comfy.
Great recreation areas underneath housing dining/recreation areas.
Breakfast overlooking the creek.
We had a tasty meal cooked by Mum one evening - had to give notice.
Would definitely go back.
