My husband always wanted a boat so for his 40th birthday, I got him two nights on River Rovers. It came with all the pleasure and none of the work or responsibility. Capt. Gordon was exceptional and we were psyched to discover how comfortable and easy-going this flat bottom boat trip was. Two nights afloat gave us enough time to get into the groove of motoring along Phuket's gorgeous waterways. We snorkeled and rested and read and ate amazing meals on board. Gordon asked about any special requests and he followed through - we had lots of fresh coconuts and sparkling water. And did I mention the wine and Thai whisky and the rum? We were a floating cocktail party with expertly prepared Thai meals and a superb English breakfast fry-up both mornings!
The highlight of the trip was dropping anchor at a floating fish farm. We met the family, got a walking tour of their farm and were treated to yet another fabulous meal of fresh grilled fish and vegetable curries. We splurged and picked a lobster and that too was grilled to perfection. There were a lot of activities on offer - incl. more snorkeling, visiting the monkeys etc. but we opted for just taking it easy and leaving all the details to Gordon. He's an experienced captain with lots of stories to share. We felt safe at all times, very well-cared for and really informed. We saw a part of Thailand only a handful of tourists will ever see. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead to spend a night or two on River Rovers before your holiday or at the end. There is truly something magical about falling asleep on the boat and waking up in a sleepy fishing village. You feel transported and the experience is likely to become one of your best travel stories. Thanks Gordon - we're still talking about our three-day trip aboard your fully-kitted out boat!
