Went to the pyramids in December 07. Takes about 2 hours across Cairo from the airport in the worst traffic I've ever seen. When you get near you can see the pyramids from a few miles off and you start to get excited. As you get closer they get more spectacular. We went into the tomb of the "capped" pyramid (Kefrin) because we didnt have enough egyptian money to go into the "great " pyramid. They dont take pounds or dollars. Probably about £2 per person.
Walked around the site for an hour before the coach set off. The camel drivers and hawkers are annoying, but just tell then you are albanian and they leave you alone. Even if you take a picture and they get in the way they try to charge you. They try to hold your camera to take your photo then charge you. Hawkers try to put things in your hand then charge you. A bit too full on but just be firm and they go away.
The pyramids and sphinx are absolutely magical. Its one of the few places that should be on everybodys to-see list, Definitely the best place i ever been. We drove through Cairo to the museum and saw King Tut and the mummies, also magic.
Cairo itself is a must see. especially if you are safely on a coach with a guide and bodyguard. It has a contrast between rich and poor that ive never seen, nothing like it anywhere in Europe.
