My family and I had 10 nights in Patong at the Mercure. My boys are aged 6 and 9 and they loved it. We had a family room which consisted of a normal hotel room and a partitioned off "room" for the kids with bunk beds and a chest of drawers for them. The wall and lightshade was themed for the kids i.e aeroplanes/cars etc and they were given a soft toy each. The partition was just a curtain, but did the trick.
As this hotel is only a year old, everything was in pristine condition and fabulously clean. There was a bath in bathroom with a hand held shower head as well as separate shower.
The pool was fantastic, though was deep throughout, so not great for non swimming younger kids. We bought an inflatable ring for our youngest for not much money at all at a shop just down the road.
The website says there's a kids club, but actually there's just a kids room, about the size of an average kids bedroom, with a tv, xbox 360 console with two games, and a few toys, mostly suited to pre-schoolers or very young kids. it's unsupervised, so not what I call a kids club.
There was a swim up bar, where the drinks weren't priced too bad, compared with other hotels around the world we have experienced. And there was a happy hour!
The location is great. Just one block back from the beach and a short walk to the markets. Lots of restaurants right outside the door offering Thai and western food at unbelievably low prices.
We had a great holiday and would strongly recommend this hotel both for families and couples/singles/groups.
Note they have pool view rooms with balconies overlooking the pool and city view rooms that overlook dirty rooftops, so well worth the extra for the pool view. The family rooms are all city view and don't have balconies due to safety restrictions.
One last thing - the spa! - wow! I had two treatments while I was there. First a reflexology foot massage, which is very welcome after 29 hours travelling, along with a facial and then later in the week I had a two hour treatment including steam sauna, body scrub and aromatherapy massage. Both were only thb1000 - work it out in your currency - you won't believe it. The facility is fantastic and the girls are wonderful. Leave a big tip!
