We love Bermuda, and we're looking for a new place to stay. We wish we had stayed elsewhere.
On arrival we were told there was no record of our reservation. I tried to show them the confirmation they had emailed me, but they refused to look at it. After 45 minutes they finally agreed we could stay with them, and in the accomodation we had booked.(Commanders house, the "presidential suite" of the resort)
During my attempt to check in, my wife and 3 sons loaded up the "bellhop" cart with our lugagge and groceries (the suite has a kitchen) No bell hop in sight. He arrived just as I finished the check in ordeal. He informed us he had to "be elsewhere" and made us unload the cart.
At this point a woman who had been watching us for nearly a half hour stepped us and informed us she was the manager. She said she would drive us to our rooms, but told us "hurry up, I have to be elsewhere for an important group"
On arrival at our suite of rooms, she once again told us to be quick unloading (a lot of stuff, 2 story building, no asistance fromher or anyone)
What an awful start to our vacation!
It got worse. There is a farm immediately adjacent to the resort. The smell of cow dung was, at times, overwhelming. About half the resort suffers from this problem! Our lovely suite of rooms, with 2 balconies and a patio, and using them was, at times, impossible. We had to keep the windows closed the entire time.
Our maid was lovely. Actually, she was a laundress and told us the maids "don't like cleaning the Commanders house as it is too big"! Thank god she volunteered every day to do our maid service or I doubt we would have had any cleaning done at all.
The food is decent at the restaurant, but here's another story. I went to make dinner reservations at 535pm one day. I was told you need to make a reservation by 530, so I was too late. After some begging, she said "well if its only you, I will make you a reservation". When I informed her it was for a family of 5, she threw her pencil in the air and stormed off! We showed up anyway, around 7pm, and the place was 2/3 empty and we were promptly seated!
Our bottle of expensive red wine for dinner arrived (after several inquiries) with dessert!
The Beach and beach bar. Evidently the water sports people have a deal with the cruise ships as every day a small horde of passengers descend on the beach area. Since they seem to get a free drink token with whatever package they bought, there were times it took 45 minutes to get anything at the bar.
They have live music at the beach bar after dinner, but only if you buy a ticket ($50-75) This includes food and or/booze. I've never been to a resort where you had to pay to listen to the beach bar band. Well, after a couple of nights, we said "what the hell, lets go" Turns out you needed to buy a ticket in advance and they were sold out, to locals!
A lot of outsiders are at the resort, locals and cruise ship passengers. Forget having a private/exclusive gettaway.
I've seen some other comments here about indifferent or poor service. Amen, we found the same thing, over and over again. The majority of the staff just seemd to not care one bit about their jobs or our vacation.
We had other less than joyful ecperiences there, but I'll leave it that we'll never go back. If you value service, privacy, and quality, stay away from 9 Beaches (and its neighboring cows!)
We suggest Cambridges Beaches or Ariel Sands.
