“Great time on our honeymoon”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

We stayed at the Hyatt Maui from 9/22-9/28 for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. We both thought the hotel was very nice, however, once we traveled to the Grand Hyatt in Kauai we realized the Hyatt Maui is a good hotel, but not as great as the Hyatt in Kauai.

The rooms were very nice and spacious. Though we did have a problem with our AC (we had to be moved, to a free upgraded ocean view room!) we didn't let that bother us. Both rooms we stayed in were great and we never had any other issues. My wife loved the lotions and such that they provided.

The grounds are very nice and in September they are not crowded at all. We always got good spots at the pool, no matter when we went down to get them. We got to taste the new poolside restaurant which was very good. Some prices are inflated here, but that is to be expected in the resorts, if you walk to Whalers Village you will find things much cheaper, especially drinks.

“Big hotel ,crowded pool, nice grounds”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

The Hyatt is a huge hotel , the grounds are beautiful and the hotel has a very nice art collection. The rooms are clean and spacious. This is a typical Hawaiian luxury chain hotel, The food is Ok but the restaurants are crowded. The pool is jammed with teenagers , it is not very relaxing to sit at the pool ,everybody is on top of one another, not enough space, make sure you get up early to even find a seat.

“Fabulous Week at the Hyatt Regency Maui”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

We just returned from a week at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort. It was our second stay in 2 years and was even better than the first time. The service was superb, room clean, staff friendly and helpful, grounds beautiful, and food excellent.

We stayed in a partial ocean view room (we were upgraded by the hotel upon arrival) in the north tower. The room was spacious and comfortable. The lanai, with table and chairs and flower planters separating the apartments, overlooked the ocean.

The pool is as gorgeous at it appears to be in the photos. We had no problem getting lounge chairs next to the pool. We swam at the beach (the water was as warm or warmer than the pool!) and snorkeled right off the Hyatt as well as at Black Rock, a 20 min. walk up the beach walk. The snorkelling was great.

Don't miss the breakfasts at Son'z at Swan Court. Tables overlook a pond with waterfall, with the namesake swans paddling around.

“Fabulous Stay”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

5 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA

We got a great deal for 7 days at the Hyatt - we've been to Maui twice before, this was by far our best stay. I read a review about the interior needing an update and looking 70's...what?! I host a travel show and have stayed in the best hotels all over the world...the Hyatt measures up 100%. The rooms looked very modern with an "island" vibe, very spacious, extremely clean, salon quality shampoo/conditioner/lotions, nice partial ocean view (for the price, I was pleasantly surprised) pristine grounds and pool area (gorgeous African Cranes, Penguins, giant Koi fish, African Grey, Parrots...throughout the grounds).

I loved that the Kiddie pool area was separate from the adult pool area, so you're not bothered with the kids (in september kids are in school, so wasn't a problem anyway). My husband and I are 35 yrs. old, but we had a blast on the water slide (not for the weak-hearted). Had a little issue with the very expensive drink prices, but you're on vacation and this island's revenue is over 50% tourism, so give em a break.

Staff was extremely friendly. Some people gave the staff bad reviews, but honestly, isn't it impossible to please some people?

The beach outside the hotel isn't the best on the island, but there are so many great beaches in Maui, you're crazy to not explore as many as you can. There are several hammocks along the perimeter that were amazing to lay in and watch the sun go down.

The hotel sushi restaurant was excellent and actually had pretty good prices. The poolside grill also had pretty good food, but a little pricey.

You're just a short walk from Whalers Village - and the Hula Grill, which may be a chain, but is fabulous!!

“Hyatt Maui - Slightly Underwhelming”

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

Sep 24, 2008
2/7 found this review helpful

The Hyatt Maui was generally pleasant – the hotel was clean and the staff were courteous. However, we were underwhelmed on arrival, after assuming it would be a luxurious honeymoon destination. It wasn’t – it was average. The hotel needs a bit of a revamp; it looks seriously 70s with the avocado paint everywhere! Our room was supposed to be non-smoking, but had a strong cigarette whiff. The pool area was very nice, as was the beach front and garden areas. The prices for everything in the hotel were inflated - you're paying London prices for a beer, for example. The biggest annoyance was the 'mandatory supplemental charge' of $15 a day for things like tea and coffee in your room, a daily newspaper and use of the tennis courts. I couldn't find any reference to this charge in the small print, and frankly I would have assumed it to be included, or at the least certainly NOT mandatory! Also, we were charged $20 a day for valet parking – but after pointing out that we didn't have a car this was removed from our bill. Overall, I wouldn’t have bothered paying the extra for the Hyatt. If I’d have known I would have booked into the Ka’anapali Beach Resort a bit further down the road.
