Like another recent poster, we were in building four where the construction was occuring, but it didn't bother us at all, as we were rarely in the room. We did notice the tv was out, and we actually were comped by management for, I believe, the resort fee and valet parking. Oh, and a $15 dining certificate. So we're quite happy with that.
Now, onto the more fun stuff. The location of this resort is absolutely the best. Ka'anapali beach is phenomenal; black rock offers excellent snorkeling; it is a short drive to Lahaina; and only a ten minute walk to Whaler's Village, where there are restaurants and many nice shops.
The grounds are beautifully maintained, and very pretty. The pool is fine, very large, very clean, and I think kids would love it. I preferred the ocean.
Our room, which was considered ocean view (different to ocean front) looked over the gardens and pool and then the ocean beyond that. The view was phenomenal. We could also hear the waves from our room.
The room itself was very basic, especially considering the high cost of this resort. However, the bed was SOOOO comfy! Both hubby and I slept well. The bedding is high quality, but the sheets are crisp, which is great until you have a sunburn, and then they scratch! Housekeeping services were excellent; we always brought back loads of sand with us, and each day it was cleaned up perfectly. There were some tiny bugs (ants, I think) in our room, but they didn't worry me enough to do anything about them.
We only ate at the poolside bar once, and not at any of the restaurants. The food was okay. Very expensive for what it was. There were long waits at the other restaurants when we checked them out, and even for Maui, the prices were high.
Check in was a breeze, as was checkout. We used valet parking every day, and I think it was worth the extra $5. One thing to know about this resort is that if you are in building four or a higher number, you will be walking a LOT! I actually counted, and it was 400 steps from our room to the front of the hotel where we picked up the car. That's okay until you come home late, either sunburned or exhausted or trashed or any combination, and then those 400 steps feel like a mile!!!
The lobby and common areas of the hotel are really lovely, open to the outdoors, with breezes blowing through (and rain too, on a couple of the days we were there). The total Hawaii experience!
All in all, we loved our time at the Sheraton, would recommend it to anyone, and would happily return there.
