The Royal Lahaina, although a bit overpriced (like most places in Maui), turned out to be a decent choice. It was really conveniently located right on gorgeous Kaanapali beach. It had two small but lovely pools and rented the usual selection of snorkel gear etc from the poolside cabanas. Room service food was not too bad (cornbread was delicious) and there's a decent coffeeshop on site. The trolley runs on time and takes you to and from the other nearby hotels. it also connects you with Maui transit. so you can easily get into Lahaina. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. There was also an activities desk in the lobby as well as a car rental company. Also, my room in the tower was really nice and recently renovated. I changed my reservation at the last minute. because I had read that the cottages weren't in very good shape. I could see some of the cottage roofs need repair pretty badly, but I never saw what they were like on the inside. My only complaint about my stay is that sometimes the housekeeping wasn't great.
