“Wear your winter woolies in the dining room”

Hotel Palomar San Francisco - a Kimpton Hotel

Aug 3, 2008

This hotel is in a great location but as several reviewers have stated the rooms are very small. The big problem we had here was the michelin star restaurant, located on the 5th floor. The food was lovely but our table was situated near the air conditioning vent and it was absolutely freezing. Three times we asked for the air conditioning to be turned down before the manager eventually came to our table and told us they were aware of the problem but they were unable to do anything about it. I pointed out to him that three people in the table behind us were actually wearing their jackets and he agreed it was not a satisfactory situation. Our tea and coffee was on the house but considering we had paid $500 for the meal I felt this the least that could have been done.

Dear Guest,
Thank you recently staying with us and writing this review. We are constantly looking to improve and can only do so with the comments of our guests.

I was sorry to hear that your stay was not up to your expectations in regards to the room size. The restaurant situation has been addressed with the Restaurant General Manager and our air conditioning system has been looked at and updated by our Engineers to insure that climate control in the Dining Room can be more specifically handled. I would love to further address this situation with you as well and would welcome any further feedback you had.

I hope that your experience with us will not deter you from visiting the Hotel Palomar again and that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back on your next trip to San Francisco. If you choose to stay with us again, please contact me prior to your arrival. I will personally see to it that you are properly taken care of throughout your stay. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Thank you and best regards,

Osama M Aduib

“Lovely - Great value - Some communication issues”

Hotel Palomar San Francisco - a Kimpton Hotel

4 of 5 stars

Great rate on Travelzoo.com - $139.00 for two doubles. Nick-Dal thought room was small, but perhaps has never stayed in a NYC 85 sf shoebox "boutique" hotel for $350 ... our Palomar room was HUGE! Well appointed, comfortable (except for the pillows; I dislike down, and the foam pillows that were brought up were hard as rocks). Staff was very friendly, but it took forever for them to bring our bags to the room. (Three calls to the desk and one personal trip to look for them; apparently there was one bellman on duty and couldn't deal with several people checking in at once ... we were late for an appointment because of that. When he finally did deliver the bags he said there would be a bottle of wine delivered to our room for our trouble, but the wine never materialized.) Towels were not changed daily, which didn't bother me, but it did bother my travel companion (there was no note in the bathroom indicating that towels would not be changed, as I've seen in other hotels). Didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, so can't comment on that. Annabelle's Bistro just down the block had one of the best Ceasar Salads that I've ever tasted. Hotel offers a free wine tasting daily from 5-6, which is a lovely idea, but we were out sightseeing all day, and never in our hotel at that hour. Would have been a nice end to the day at 9 pm or so. Overall, good experience at the Palomar. Very clean, comfortable, friendly and quiet.

“No closet, no service”

Hotel Palomar San Francisco - a Kimpton Hotel

On busy Market Street, the hotel sits above an Old Navy retail store. The layout is a little odd with the main hotel starting on the 5th floor. The restaurant and bar offer very limited hours, and otherwise are dead space off the elevator. The room was on the small side as expected in San Francisco. But for the price I did not expect no closet (no hooks, no rod, no alcove, nothing ... NO closet). Service was non existant. Our request for towels not only resulted in no towels, but resulted in an unpleasant attitude from the front desk staff. I travel a great deal for work and spend about 200 nights a year in hotels. This was by far the worst ever.

“Excellent Hotel and Location”

Hotel Palomar San Francisco - a Kimpton Hotel

5 of 5 stars
San Diego
Jul 25, 2008

This Hotel is situated at the perfect location right in the heart of downtown San Francisco. You are 2 blocks to Union Square, 1/2 a block to BART, 6 blocks to China Town, 2 blocks to the famous Cable Cars.

The hotel is decorated nicely, very clean and the service is quick and efficient. Our check in took about 2 minutes and we were upgraded to a huge room overlooking market street. We were concerned about the street noise, but it was very quiet and a great place to people watch out the windows.

The room had a large, King bed with bench in front, a seating area with table to the side and another seating area by the bedside. It had a huge flatscreen tv on the wall with DVD player and pay movies. It also had HBO.

The bathroom was very spacious with lots of granite counter space and was very clean. There was a large closet in the room with ironing board and plenty of storage.

We used the fitness room in the hotel, which was very small and a bit crowded when 2 other people came into it. It was convenient though, because most hotels in the area make you go to outside locations to excercise, which is really a hassle.

My only small complaint was the lack of comfort from the pillows. They were very soft and mushy and made sleeping a bit difficult. After mentioning this in an online survey from Kimpton Hotels, the manager replied right away and apologized for the pillows and said to contact him next time I was coming to town and he'd upgrade my room. I thought that was excellent service.
