“Great base hotel”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego / Mission Valley

5 of 5 stars
Los Angeles
Jul 7, 2008

We stayed here for the holiday weekend, we wanted somewhere that was fairly central. Our main concern when booking was that it was clean, easy to get to attractions, and fairly cheap, as the only time we would be spending here was to sleep.

Although the hotel was busy and there was a wedding taking place the staff were polite and helpful.

The rooms were a good size, and spotlessly clean. Even though we were so close to the freeway there was little noise.

The hotel matched our requirements perfectly and I would definatley stay again.

“Nice Hotel”

We were in California on vacation for a week. We spent the first half in San Francisco and the second in San Diego. We really liked this hotel. Their shuttle will come and pick you up from the airport for free(you will have to pay for the shuttle to take you back but it's cheaper than a taxi). The staff was very helpful and friendly. Our room was nice and clean. It was just me and my husband and we ended up with a room with two double beds. I didn't think that was what we booked through hotels.com but we end up with more space so that was fine. The trolley stop is directly across the street. For most of our trip the ticket machine at the trolley station was not taking dollars but you can buy all day passes at the hotel front desk. We did not rent a car and did not need to. We could get everywhere we wanted to go via the trolley. When we went to Mission Beach, we just transfered to the bus at Old Town. (You can also do that to get to Sea World). I read some post that said the hotel is far from downtown but with the trolley being right there it didn't seem that far. A few stops and you're at GasLamp or Petco. So if you don't mind waiting sometimes for the trolley to come,it is still public transportation, you can stay at this hotel without renting a car. We had a great time and will definitely stay there again.

“Absolutely Best Choice!”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego / Mission Valley

5 of 5 stars
San Francisco, California
Jun 27, 2008

We stayed there for a 4 day Get-Away Trip on the Memorial Day Weekend.

The staff was outstanding friendly, gave tips and information what to do without even asking, the reception hall is pleasent and bright. The room size is absolutely perfect and has modern interior. The bathroom was small comparing to the rest of the room but still okay. We've got every day new shower gel or body lotion if it was used the day before. They provide even special Facial Soap and a face cloth from Neutrogena, which is a good - not cheap brand. Everything was clean and the hotel was very quiet. (At least the time we stayed there)

They have an inside and an outside pool, nice bar and restaurant.

The breakfast buffet was comprehensive and fresh.

The Location is very central and has a perfect connection to several highways. Easy short trip to Sea World, Downtown, Old Town, Balboa Park etc. It is sourrounded by several huge shopping malls and restaurants.

Trolley Station across the street. Parking cost extra but there is alos plenty on street parking available.

I would recommend this Hotel to everyone and Yes I would defenetly stay there again.

Unfortunately we did not have nice weather at our stay but especially than I was glad to have a comfortable nice clean room.

“Very nice, comfortable, new looking, but street noise a problem”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego / Mission Valley

We spent one night at the Doubletree Hotel San Diego-Mission Valley and enjoyed our stay very much. The hotel is located on somewhat of a dead end street in a very nice, upscale neighborhood. The San Diego trolley has a station stop just across the street making it very easy to get around town. Also, there are two large shopping centers within walking distance with many very fine restaurants. The hotel is very well maintained and looks almost new. However, I feel the check in and check out process would be much better served with more than one desk clerk on duty. The one clerk was very busy with telephone calls and complicated requests which forced me to wait longer than I feel is acceptable to check in and check out. Our room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. However, the noise from the adjacent freeway and highway is a significant problem. At first I thought the sliding door had been left open (it wasn’t). This would be a problem for light sleepers or people sensitive to background noise. I will most definitely return to the Doubletree San Diego-Mission Valley when our travel plans call for us to be in the San Diego area. I feel the hotel was a good value.

“$14 per day for self-parking!”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego / Mission Valley

Jun 10, 2008

I would describe the hotel a standard hotel with standard amenities. We received warm cookies on arrival but they were way too sweet and did not make up for the sticker shock of $14 per day for self-parking . We are talking about a place outside the heart of San Diego next to the highway ... (And I am used to all kinds of expensive parking ... coming from Manhattan ... The fee just seems unjustifiable for this part of the country/town ...) The room was spacious and looked nice. However, everything felt like it is made of cheap material. Our room on the fourth floor was also quite noisy. The door was not very sound-proof and I heard people coming in and out for much of the late night/early morning. And then there was this out-of-control party in the hotel that led to police blocking off the entrance for a while ... That was beyond the hotel's control, of course. It just did not add up to a good impression ...
