“Chocolate cookies are the best way to start a stay!”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego / Mission Valley

On arrival you get a warm choc chip cookie - and you love the hotel already.
The rooms were large a clean and we were on the 11 floor which gets you the breaky everyday. The lady in charge of that was lovely and made you feel very welcome.
The exit at the 2nd floor gets you to the hazard centre which is nice a close with restaurants and cinema and some shops.
Accross from the cinema is the 'trolley' which is easy to use when you figure out what way to go. The first stop away fromt he hotel is fashion vally which we didnt realise was a huge shopping centre just close to our hotel ( but not close enought to walk) 2$ gets you there! Further that way is downtown with more shops.
You can also catch the trolley the other way to qualcom stadium so if there is a game on it is very handy - but it takes ages to get home as all 69000 people seemd to take the trolley!!!! The Guest services desk was fantastic in getting us tickets to the Football game so ask them for help.
The hotel like many others had no fridge but that was the only bad thing. There is also a guest laundry hidden within the floors so it comes in handy!

“Good hotel, would definitely stay here again”

I stayed here based on the reviews and a decent AAA rate. The front desk person was great, bell staff was great. Beds were great. A/C did not work, but 10 minutes after one phone call it was fixed. I asked to stay on the quite side, away from the highway but beware of nightlife nose and the beeps of trucks backing up in the garage that last into the night. I didn't like- the comforter in between two flat sheets (duvet covers would have been nicer) and a small refridgerator in the room would have been nice. I would stay here again.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — decent room, great beds, excellent staff
    • Disliked — outside noise, no refridgerator in room

“Nice hotel, convenient location”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego / Mission Valley

We stayed here for a few nights in August and have no complaints. It is a standard business hotel, so nothing really thrilling about it, but nothing bad either. Rooms are nice enough size, with a sofa and small desk. Bathrooms are fine (once I figured out that the water wasn't running out because the drain cover was on, which wasn't clear from looking at it). It's a little run-down looking in parts, but clean.

The warm cookie on check-in is a nice touch - I could have done with one every day! We had breakfast in the restaurant every morning and the selection is nice - the breakfast buffet is good value if you're hungry.

There is a small indoor pool and a larger outdoor pool, though we didn't use either. They looked nice, however. We did use the coin laundry, which was handy for anyone on a longer trip who doesn't want to pay hotel laundry rates or carry bags of clothes out of the hotel to a public laundry.

The hotel is located directly opposite a trolley stop, which was handy for going downtown, and the Fashion Valley shopping mall is one stop down.

Overall this was an okay experience and for the price of hotels in San Diego, relatively good value.

“Probably a nice hotel -- if they honor your reservation”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego / Mission Valley

Aug 16, 2008

We'd booked the room two months ago through their own website and received a confirmation e-mail a week before. None of that mattered. They overbooked, didn't have a room for us (but did check in the people behind us), and sent us to a hotel a 20-minute drive out of town. No room service, no indoor pool, tiny room with only one bed and a rollaway for our son that barely fit in the entryway, blocking the bathroom door. We were exhausted and it was awful.

Doubletree is probably lovely, but you can't count on them honoring your reservation. Or even treating you well when they bump you.

“Great hotel, lovely friendly staff, good location”

Doubletree Hotel San Diego / Mission Valley

4 of 5 stars
Norwich, United Kingdom
Aug 11, 2008

The Doubletree Mission Valley is a great hotel in a really good location for a short break in San Diego. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is clean, tidy and comfortable throughout. The location is very good being a short walk/drive from various malls/eateries and other facilities as well as being right on the tram system into town. It is also not far to drive into the centre of SD or especially to the zoo and other attractions in that area.
