My wife and I recently used Hilton Points for a very nice weekend here, after spending the week at another nearby hotel for a business conference. Overall, our stay was quite good.
The hotel is located right on the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter, near numerous restaurants, shopping, and the baseball stadium. Everything you need is within walking distance, so no need for a rental car or taxis, once you arrive. Despite being in an active area, we found our room to be quiet. Some previous reviewers have mentioned noise from the nearby train tracks, but we didn't have a problem - the light-rail trolley isn't noisy at all, and the Amtrak train only came by once a day during the daytime.
The hotel has a stylish, modern, boutique feel. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The restaurant doubles as a sophisticated little bar in the evening (nothing loud or crazy).
Our room was well maintained and very comfortable. The lighting was a bit quirky, with VERY tall bedside lamps that were difficult to turn off or on while lying in bed. The bathroom light operated by a motion sensor, so it came on as soon as I entered, even in the middle of the night, before I could close the door (so the light shone out into the bedroom itself, waking my wife).
The pool was a bit small, but generally adequate.
Overall, I highly recommend the Hilton Gaslamp. We were very pleased.
