The main method by which most people reach Haiti is airplane.  The airport serving the area is Port-au-Prince International Airport ( www.aanhaiti.com), so named for its basic location, although it is official known is Toussaint Louverture International Airport.  This airport is served by a number of major airlines.  Upon arrival at the airport, travelers can opt to rent a car for further travel around Haiti or they can take a taxi or shuttle from the airport to their hotel destination.  Public transportation is reported to be efficient in Haiti (for more information, see http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g14... ) so it is not necessary to rent a car in the area.

In some cases, visitors come to Haiti after first traveling to the Dominican Republic.   There are two major locations from which visitors can pass between the two places, one in the north of Haiti and one in the south.   The south crossing is located in Port-au-Prince and is generally the method preferred by visitors who will be staying in that area and flying out from the airport there. Visitors traveling between locations reminded that there is a departure tax for travelers.   The tax is inexpensive and should be considered part of the standard airfare and general cost of travel.
