Hiring drivers and driver/guides is a recommended alternative in Bali to using taxis or large tour company buses/cars. Your personal driver/guide can bring greater flexibility and local connection to your travel. For individual, personal recommendations, how to hire and a guide to prices, please search the Bali forum.
Some of the drivers listed below have the locations on where they are based (they'd be experts in that area), but ALL the drivers can take you ANYWHERE in Bali. Some drivers are also qualified tour guides (i.e. with certification, which means that they can bring you to Bersakih temple while just regular drivers cannot).

What is most likeable about him is that he's not too chatty, and gives you quiet time to take in the sights, but will willingly answer any questions you have about anything at all. Most accommodating, very punctual (always early), doesn't smoke, charges reasonable rates, drives very safely and courteously with his spacious comfy clean Toyota Kijang, and carries a mini-stick into Uluwatu to protect you from the mischievous monkeys. Replies emails and SMS-es promptly. Definitely the best guide you could get in Bali! :)

Very friendly, good-natured, and patient. Drives a clean, comfortable van that can seat 7-8 passengers. Can meet you at the airport to take you to your hotel, then can be your driver to go sightseeing/shopping/etc. for as many days as you need him, then drive you to the airport again when your trip is through. He is always prompt (always 5-10 minutes earlier than the appointed time) and professional. Will take you wherever you want to go and will wait patiently near the van, no matter how much time you spend there. Can bring you to wonderful places: tourist destinations, restaurants, spas, beaches, shopping areas, etc. He knows where the good Balinese dance shows are, where to see the beautiful Bali sunset, etc. He knows his way around very well and is the best guide to have.
