Quito's high elevation and Andean setting make getting to it easiest by plane. Located inside the city bounaries north of Quito, the Quito International Airport (otherwise known as the Mariscal Sucre airport) services Quito and its surrounding area with 25 daily international flights and 51 domestic flights. International airlines include Aerocontinente, Aeropostal, American Airlines, Avianca, Continental, Copa, Iberia, KLM, Lacsa, Lan Chile, Lan Ecuador, Santa Barbara, TACA, and domestic airlines are Aerogal, Austro Aéreo, Club VIP, ICARO, Saéreo, TAME.
There are several car rental agencies at the airport, namely Avis, Budget, and Localiza. If you want to take a taxi, find one of them readily available outside the terminals. They operate on fixed-rate fares to various zones in the city. Otherwise, request the driver to turn on the taximeter to calculate the fare.
There are also several buses from the airport into the city center run by Trolebus (1 800 876532) and Ecovía Services. Metrobus- Q systems offer a special rate for senior citizens and disabled users.
To get to the airport from the city, take 10 de Agosto Avenue as far as Amazonas Avenue. From any other location outside the city, take highway Panamericana to 10 de Agosto Avenue, then Amazonas Avenue.
