Travelers can begin their Peruvian adventure by arriving in Lima through many major carriers including American Airlines and United at Jorge Chavez International Airport . The airport is located outside of town about 6 miles from downtown. However, in order to get to the center of Lima or to Miraflores, which where many of the hotels are located, a cab ride should cost about $10 to $15 and should take approximately 30 minutes. Travelers should note about the taxis in Lima: since there is no meter, it is required and accepted to bargain for the cab fare (this could serve as quite a surprise for an unwitting visitor!) In fact, in Lima it is not uncommon for travelers to share a cab. Also, speaking Spanish is a plus; if travelers do not speak Spanish, they should be sure to have a sheet of paper with the name of the hotel or hostel where they wish to go, just to ensure there is no miscommunication or confusion on the way. There are also shuttles available from the airport to the hotel as necessary . There is also public transport available outside the gates of the airport on Av. Faucett, but is not recommendable to take them.  Now just outside customs at the airport there is a Taxi Company called Green Line which offers services to anywhere in Lima at reasonable prices.  Make sure you take one of them as it is unsafe to take the ones outside the airport.

Since many people arrive in Lima with plans to trek around Peru, there is also the option to arrive or depart via the domestic airlines to other parts of Peru. Airlines like Aerocondor or Lan provide such a service. Lima provides the international access to Peru as well as facilitates travel to other important Peruvian towns such as Cuzco.  Many hotels in Cuzco offer transport to and from the airport. Try to book a hotel which can arrange you a taxi to pick you up from Cuzco airport.

Another way to travel throughout Peru is via bus. Several bus lines travel through Lima but the best are Cruz del Sur, Ormeno and Tepsa. Travelers should note that buses are not always the most reliable way to travel, especially overnight buses, and can be a bumpy ride. However, they are inexpensive and often offer good panoramas of the lush Peruvian scenery.
