If you would rather not be crowded in with all the other visitors at the temples, try to see Angkor Wat on your own in the morning while the tour bus groups see Angkor Thom and then see Angkor Thom later, after the tour groups have finished there. Or you can start the trip even earlier than others in the morning and finish earlier in the day.
