- 30,000 BC – It is believed that prehistoric humans settled in the area around this time in history.
- 3000 B.C. – This is the beginning of the history of the ancient Egyptians as it is related in the history books.
- 2500 B.C. – The Hyksos tribe invades the area and pushes the Egyptians out for a time being.
- 1400 B.C. – During this time, it is believed that Moses spent time in this area. This is the time when God spoke to Moses at Mt. Sinai , a critical part of the historical interest of the area.
- Beginning of A.D. – Some religious believers say that the Virgin Mary brought Jesus through Sinai at this time.
- 500 A.D. – One of the most famous monuments, St. Catherine’s, was built.
- 1000 A.D. – Arabs take over the area and the religion of the area officially becomes Islam.
- 1500 A.D. – Turks come to the area and take over for a time.
- 1869 A.D. – The opening of the Suez Canal
- Mid-twentieth-century – The first of a series of wars between various middle eastern countries affects the area. Warfare continues to this day.
