Before you leave for your trip, check to see what the going rate for a taxi is, as this will be your first bargaining-ability test after you get off the airport. The rate that you should get will probably be somewhere around £e40.
Taxis do not usually use meters, so this up-front bargaining is all important! If you are loathe to bargain, a limo goes for a flat fee that is usually £e20 to £e30 more expensive.
Another taxi tip: the cheaper taxis are usually not the ones right in front of the hotel. For a better price, walk down the block and hail one off the street. Street signs are not a popular in Egypt, so use landmarks when giving directions. Always pick a price ahead of time.
Confident drivers can rent a car. You’ll need to quickly adapt to a new set of driving style, but this can be done. It will probably be the most dangerous thing you do on your trip, but again, it can be done. A rental car should cost under $400 for a week. If you do rent, don't forget to get your International Driver's Permit.
