Downtown Lahaina is near and/or on the beach. Honoapiilani Hwy (which is a north - south 2 lane hwy) runs the length of Lahaina. Front St is the primary street that flows through downtown and is parallel to this Hwy. From this hwy, take any of the following streets west, which will intersect with Front: Shaw, Prison, Dickenson, Lahainaluna Rd., Papalaua, Kenui or Kapunakea. Although any of these streets intersect with Front, the downtown area is primarily between Papalaua and Prison.
Downtown Lahaina is a wonderful potpourri of shops, restaurants and galleries. The primary thoroughfare is 2-way Front Street. Parking on Front is tedious at best, as parking is minimal and via parking meter. Rather than to keep circling until a spot is found, park on one of the side streets for a flat rate/hour. Some great spots w/low rates that can be validated is near the post office & Lahaina Shopping center, located between Papalaua & Lahainaluna; also between Lahainaluna and Dickerson. Note that some side streets are one-way. There are some restaurants, shops, venues that will validate parking.
The easiest way to manuever the narrow streets is to walk, single file. The busiest times are at dusk and evening. The morning and early afternoon until sunset are the best times to leisurely walk Front and side streets, as most people are enjoying other parts of the island and activities.
Once the sun goes down, the crowds are much heavier, courting anyone of legal drinking age, so it’s prudent to bring the younger ones during the day.
