Buffalo’s public transportation system is run by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority. The NFTA has several buses throughout the city and suburbs, plus a 6-mile Metro Rail rapid transit system in the city. The Metro Rail runs along Main Street from HSBC Arena to the University of Buffalo’s south campus, with several stops in between. The train operates above ground in the section closest to downtown, and then descends under Main Street as it goes toward the campus. Aboveground rides are free, but there is a $1.50 charge if you continue to ride past the Theatre District into the subway.

Bus stops can be found on almost every street corner in the city, and many other spots throughout the area. Fares start at $1.50 and exact change is required. Schedules are available at all transportation centers, at the Convention Center and the Visitor Center, as well as online.
